Maisies always been really vocal in the sense of babbling and stuff from a really early age. She started saying a number of words quite early like mom, dad, grandad, doggy, car,ta,juice ect. Ive noticed for the past few months she hardly ever speaks any proper words now. Shes constantly talking in her own little language and even sits there reading in her own language, but never ever says any 'real' words. The only time she'll say mom is when shes upset, she says grandad quite alot but thats the only word she'll say.

Its as if shes sort of gone back on herself? does this sound normal?

Could it just be she is learning how to form sentances so is a bit to busy to say the words she knows iykwim

it sounds quite normal to me, charlie does this too and he was 2 in may, he babbles all the time and only says a handle of words not very often x

This happened with my son. He was doing well with his words then suddenly stopped making any effort at all. We took him to the doctor and they gave him a hearing test, turns out he had glue ear! Its def worth getting her ears checked out x

Isobelle is doing exactly the same
I have put it down to her learning so much at the mo and its her way of getting on with it and im just waiting for the day she suddenly asks for something out of the blue

Soph is the exact same! She was saying lots! especially birdy and doggy but then she started walking lots and stopped saying this, she now calls everything a pussycat and bellybutton lol
Your LO sounds just fine! xxx

Sofia's speech seems to have slowed recently but I've put this down to her starting to walk, which she did a few weeks ago. Also she started nursery. Has you LO had any big changes recently?

My 27 month old is exactly the same...

Yeah she started walking about 3 weeks ago and has been none stop since so that must be why :) thanks girls x

Katie has ''proper'' words like Hiya, Puss, Ollie, Mama, Brum etc and babbles as well.

If she babbles i always say ''really'' or ''OMG'' she loves the responses she gets.

To them it all makes sense but to u it is just babble.

Dont worry.

According to my trusty baby manual, it often happens that a baby/toddler seems to 'forget' something he or she has recently learned to do, and it's usually the case that the previously learned skill has been put on a mental back burner while he or she is acquiring another one.
