We seem to have (semi) decided on Alexander for a name if we'd have a boy but we both prefer the shortened version to be Lexan or Lex but my mum, my nan, my sister and OHs mum all say they will only call him Alex.
This really bugs me as we have only really settled on this name if we shorten it this way.
We had a similar problem with out daughter. She is called Amelia and my mum, my sis, my bro & OHs mum called her Millie while my nan&grandad called her Amy.
Me and OH called her Millie/Melia when she was a bubs soon got changed to Mills (or Millsy)
She is now most commonly called Mills/Millsy with the odd Millie thrown in.
Do you think this would happen again with Alexander?!

I think your parents are being so stubborn. You get to name your own child and if you'd be calling him Lex most of the time, that's his name! They don't get to decide no... we'll call him something else.

Agree, really your parents should call him whatever you ask them to. You're his parents and you get to choose his name, not them xx

So what name you guys agreed on finally?? care to share here!

We still havent decided. Lol. Im guessing it prob will be Alexander for a boy but other than that still not chosen >(

Why not just have Lex then instead of Alexander?

i was gonna say , i actually really like Lexan as a full name
then they wouldnt be able to call him alex ....
otherwise i would think them a bit rude to call him something you dont like , but dont think there is really much you can do about it :(

Was gonna say the same thing, if you plan on calling him Lexan or Lex anyways then just go for Lexan. I'm named after my grandmother who is lillian, always called her lilly, but my full name is just Lily and I have no prob with it. If you name him Alexander then they will just call him alex no mater what you say. People can be so stubborn.

The reason we were going with Alexander is so that HE had a choice if when he was older her preferred something more popular then he could. Also our Daughter is called Amelia and i dont think Amelia and Lex/Lexan sound right together. I know some people will think im crazy and even my sister doesnt understand but i have this think about the names sounding right together. One lady i know has 2 sons called Miguel and Dave. :S To me personally that just sounds odd!

Also i like to give bubs a name that he can have throughout his life. I cant really imagine a tiny baby or an old man called Lex? :S

I agree that your paernts should be calling him what you want the name shortened to.. not making up their own. :hugs:
