I've been advised to have an xray but I thought it was a big no no in pregnancy. I've was told that 1 xray is equal to 10 days of backround radiation but in my experience you never have just 1 xray. Any thoughts ?

Can you avoid it?? If not then make sure they double up the protective gear on you!! I almost had an xray for my dentist and they told me to put two of the protective gowns on but then i decided not to do it.

I dislocated my shoulder I popped it back in myself but not 100% sure its completely back .I left before the doctors xrayed it but I may need to go back. I have hypermobility and arthritis so it's a regular occurrence so I usually sort it out myself but if I have problem getting it back in I end up in the ER. I want to "save" xray until really need them. Im only 14 weeks but it's made me nervous of next few months as I might get worsen joints as pregnacy goes on . I'm just not sure how bad xrays are.

Many people have gotten xrays done while pregnant and their babies were completely fine. The most important is that you have the vests on completely covering you. They say if you are that worried to put an extra one on. If you have them on then nothing can go through them. If it were an xray near baby then i would say no. But since its way high up its fine.

Could you ask to see if they offer an alternative to the x-ray for pregnant people. I know sometimes they use ultrasounds instead, but I think the shoulder might be a bit hard for that. And ask how necessary it is. At the end of the day its your decisions, they use to use x-ray's if you were having multiples back in the early 1900's at least. They might also do a lower millirad x-ray on you, if they need to do it.

I had an X-ray done of my chest as they were worried about blood clots when I was twenty something weeks with my daughter. They just made sure my belly was nice and covered by the heavy cover thing.

I had to have an x-ray when I was about 5 weeks on my broken foot. I was worried but she let me know that it was very local and would be equivalent to me getting a sunburn. My uterus was well covered just in case.

Depends on what they are xraying? If it is directed at your womb or not, if not it's ok to have in pregnancy although some doctors will avoid X-rays all together if possible to wait.
You can get more radiation from natural sources such as the sun then some X-rays.

It will be fine, just wear lead protection. Im an xray tech (radiographer) and we will xray pregnant ladies if its necessary. It will be relatively low dose and directed away from your uterus.. you would get a similar radiation dose for a shoulder xray than you would for a return flight from England to Spain, and no one worries about radiation on a plane whilst pregnant! If it is necessary, have it done and dont worry... just let them know you're pregnant x

Thanks everyone he popped out again and had to go back to the ER they took the least amount they could . Slept all day after being up all night

I wouldnt do it. I refused to have a dental one with my last pregnancy and they told me it was about the same amount of radiation as you would get from a day in the sun. Well, That maybe true, but I got Melanoma at a young age (without using tanning beds) so a day in the sun is not something I'm comfortable with.
