I'm totally committed to breast-feeding though full of doubt on succeeding because of my history with my daughter whom I pumped for. Everyone keeps telling me to buy bottles and formula for just in case, for night feedings. My gut feeling is completely against it, because I do not want to turn to them when things get hard. Why is everyone so sure I'll get bored of breast-feeding and turn to formula? Would you recommend having bottles around?

I had four bottles of Nutramigen just in case but I never used them. I ended up pumping and giving a bottle of breast milk in the beginning when we were worried about weight/ jaundice. I think it's probably good to have a little supply just in case.

I'm scared bottles will cause nipple confusion again!

If you are not comfortable with having formula around, then don't do it. I never had any formula around - though Kaya was supplemented in the hospital when she had jaundice, but only by cup feeding. Are the people around you more used to bottle feeding? I've found that people who are used to bottle feeding are much more likely to say 'just in case'. I personally find BF at night really easy because I co-sleep so I hardly ever wake up properly - just plug her in in my sleep.

I don't see the need to get formula 'just in case', after all the 24 hr supermarkets have everything.

I never had bottles or formula in the house. I'm glad, because I think I might have been tempted to use them when it got difficult.

So if you are really determined to breastfeed, don't have them at all. As Marley said, if you really do need them it should be fairly easy to get hold of some.

Good luck, hope the breastfeeding goes better for you this time round!

I also did not have any formula or bottles at home when LO arrived!

I though if it comes to the worst OH needs to have a stroll to the 24 hours boots we have around!

but, if it makes you feel more secure just get it!

if you are determined to breastfeed, I don't think having bottles and formula in the house will bring you away from the idea to breastfeed.

I'm going nae but getting one or two bottles for if I pump too:happydance:

That's what I did...I was working for a day when Sam was about 10 weeks old, and HV advised me to pump and give him a bottle between 4 and 6 weeks (by 4 weeks feeding should be established so hopefully bottles won't cause any problems, and after 6 weeks they are more likely to refuse a bottle as they're so used to the breast) - we had no problems with bottles :D

I didn't have any formula in the house at all until the day before I was working, when I suddenly started panicking that I didn't have enough EBM for him, so I bought a few cartons of Aptamil just in case - didn't need them though! I think it's good not to have it around so you're not tempted...as marley said it's easy to go out and get some if you're desperate!

Hope everything goes well for you when LO arrives :D x

I'm looking at getting these;

I say, go with your gut. It sounds sensible. You have thought it out. You are experienced. You know what you are doing...go with your gut.

Don't listen to anyone else, if you want to breast feed 24/7 then go for it. Breast is best they say. I'm still breast feeding and though there are times that I am tired and would luv to take a nap versus feed, I wouldn't have it any other way.

I say give it a go and see how you feel hun. You may be just fine going months on end!!

I never had formula around. I had bottles because of going back to work and pumping. If you aren't comfortable with formula- don't buy it.
