We're weaning LO a bit early (started at 4.5 months) and she's doing so well with it. Weve tried baby rice (not fussed either way!) carrot, parsnip, pear, broccoli! all the fruit and veg ive made shes really enjoyed and is now clearing an ice cube worth in one go! doing great and her bottle intake has also gone up, along with sttn! Even her looser poos have improved (so the doc was right!)

MIL mentioned one thing good to try with weaning babies is yogurts, the petit filous types.

Now I wasn't intending on buying the "kiddy yogurts" as they have sugar in, I'd rather buy natural yoghurt and add some of the fruit purees I've made so I know what's going in but what age can I do this? Am I best waiting till 6 months or can I try a bit soon?

She's 5 months in a week and a few days.

You should ideally wait til 6 months to introduce dairy. And we do exactly as you describe, use full fat natural yogurt and add a bit of fruit puree to sweeten. I steer clear of the kiddy yogurts, though Ella's Kitchen does do a nice fromage frais that doesn't have added sugar. I also make smoothies, basically yogurt, fruit puree and a bit of milk to make it a drinkable consistency. My daughter was able to drink it through a straw if I held the cup by about 8 months.

That's great thanks! I thought as much, I wanted to wait to wean till 6 months but was struggling to hold out so thought we'd try it and she's really getting the hang of it!

At the minute she's having a cube of purée (1 adult teaspoon) thinned down slightly with milk. She's starting to finish this off though so am I best upping the meal to 2 cubes, or offer food at another meal? She has it after her morning nap so around 10am?

Milk intake has gone up (2 8oz bottles and 2 7oz) so I'm thinking to up all of her bottles to 8oz but not sure if a second meal would be applicable too or if I should increase the portion size of the one meal? She's around 13llb, tracking on 9th centile since birth.

This is the bit I'm nervous about with weaning! The actual recipes etc I'm pretty ok with but knowing how much to give is really confusing me!

I'd also wait until 6 months and think your idea of using natural yogurt and puree is spot on. Petit Filous are so sugary it's unreal!

Petit filous and other fromage frais aren't yoghurt anyway, they're a type of soft cheese that in the case of the types they sell here, are highly processed and any nutrients in there have had to be added back in. Fromage frais has none of the good bacteria etc that yoghurt has xx
