Please be aware that some companies don't charge you for support when they ask you to call an 0870 number. I use the miniscule amounts from my 0870 to fund the fact I support end users with their problems well beyond their server issues half the time.
0870 to big company - bad, 0870 for a small company - good.
this is fab! considering i have just recieved my phone bill and have been charged £20 for extra calls to these numbers! at least i know for next time now xx
It always irritates me that the number to get a service or products is usually a freephone number, but when you call to complain about bad service or shoddy products, it's almost invariably an 0870 number so in order to complain about the bad things you end up giving them more money! Especially annoying when they then put you on hold!
Another idea is to look out for numbers companies quote to call should you be abroad. Often times they quote 0800 numbers for UK customers but 'normal' numbers if you are calling from abroad. The solution - use the 'foreign' number and knock off the extra numbers at the front.
