Any thoughts on a almost 11 month old baby who isn't crawling yet? She can bear weight on her legs but really doesn't like to. I already had her hips scanned at 4 months old because she had uneven hip creases and the doctor said they were normal but sometimes they click. It's getting annoying for me in the sense that I encounter other moms who gasp in disbelief that she isn't crawling yet and then immediately inform me their LO was crawling at 6/7/8 months...ya know? So not helpful. She's had lots of floor time, was sitting up at 5 months, can roll over fine. Her fine motor skills are great. Can get up from belly to seating just fine. She's happy and seems healthy... Should I care that she's not crawling yet, or is she just a late bloomer to mobility?

Is she progressing (in mobility) in other ways? Does she roll around the room to get where she wants? Is she making attempts to become more mobile?

Plenty of babies don't crawl. I didn't, and neither did 2 of my 3 siblings. I wouldn't worry about it. If she hasn't been making any strides in mobility for a couple months though, I think that would be worth mentioning to your doctor.

Yeah, she's sort of a butt shuffler, like wiggles and turns her body around to get where she wants, but it's not like, REAL mobility...I don't have to worry about her going too far, basically. she sort of acts like she wants to pull up to stand, but hasn't yet.

I dunno, guess I'll just wait and see what happens as she approaches 1 yr.

My friend's little girl did not crawl at all at 11 months, but has been walking since about 13 months (she's almost 2 now). My little boy stared crawling pretty late (8/9 months when everyone else started at 6) and I thought that he would skip it altogether because he was always so interested in walking. Everyone around me told me to just crawl in front of him and kind of help him (move his arms and legs) because it's connected to speech development (???), so I did and he eventually caught on!

My DS didn't crawl until 11 months, he always preferred to be upright. I have two friends whose babies didn't crawl until they were about a year. I wouldn't worry too much.

My friend's didn't crawl until 12 months and my niece never crawled. Both perfect well, delightful young children now. X

I have family members who never crawled...one bum-shuffled, and then got up and walked, the others went straight from rolling to walking. Crawling isn't even on the list of normal gross motor/mobility milestones, because enough babies don't do it that it's not considered an actual milestone, more of an optional extra! Your DD sounds like she's doing well, she'll probably be up on her feet before long and then there'll be no stopping her :haha:

My dd didnt start properly crawling till like 9 or 10 months. Before that she would drag her body across the floor. She actually learnt how to pull up to standing before she crawled properly so this is probably what your dd will do!

My daughter never independently moved until 15 months. She walked at 20 months 16 days. She just wasn't bothered...she passed all her developmental assessments, she was just "one of those kids". I always just *knew* she was grand, the comments from other people did upset me a lot tho...I always just went with my instinct on her and tried to ignore the comments from people!

I really appreciate all the supportive and encouraging replies! Thanks ladies! Just needed to hear it from other moms who have "been there..." ya know? She is really trying to stand up on her own now so who knows, maybe she'll be walking first!

Used to babysit a little girl who never crawled, never pulled up, never scooted and then at 11 months stood up in her crib and started walking all on her own

My dh didn't crawl til 11.5 months, and then started walking at 17 months. There was never anything wrong...just didn't feel like it I guess! Sounds perfectly fine to me!

Lots of babies don't crawl I don't think you have anything to worry about.

UPDATE!!

My baby girl just started crawling yesterday at nearly 11 months old and now I can't even keep her in bed at night!!! She's on the go 24/7! And now pulling up and trying to stand all the time!

Crazy how much things can change in just a few days!!

Thanks ladies!!

Lovely to read that! My twin thats started to crawl is a handful now and getting everywhere! X

You can see my daughters age in my signature - she has only *just*, within the past couple of days, started pulling herself along the ground on her stomach. Not crawling but getting there.

Pixie didn't do any of this either. Had no interest in moving at all. She's perfectly okay :)

My lg was about 11 months when she first started crawling. I think she was walking at around 13 months x
