Hi all I am hoping that some of you might be able to put my mind at ease. I am 11 weeks and 5 days along and have been unable to find the baby's heartbeat on our office doppler. I work in an OB office and we have a medical grade doppler. The doc that I work for tells me that I have nothing to worry about but of course I am worried. To make matters worse, I have a friend that is an ultrasound tech in a cardiology office and I had her scan me, there the baby was, it has def gotten bigger but we were unable to see the flutter of the heartbeat on that either. Now my firend said no worries as her machine is set up for cardiac imaging and not for fetal imaging. Also the baby had it's back to us, we could clearly see the spine, but again I am still worried. I go to my OB tomorrow, I just needed to vent about this. I know some of you are probably thinking STOP IT! But it is hard when you have all of these tools at your finger tips. I just want my little bean to be alright. Thanks everyone for listening.

I think you probably need to chill a little bit! Especially if you have seen baby and its grown since you last saw it, that would be enough to satisfy most people! I think unless you calm down a little bit your going to drive yourself absolutely insane and thats not good for you or baby!

With my son, I wasn't able to find the heartbeat with a doppler until 14 weeks. My doctor couldn't find it until well after. It's because not only was he a good hider, but he was also a runner. He'd run from anything that invaded his space - a hand on my belly, a probe, my nephew... lol... It's normal. :)

LOL! You are right I do need to chill. Thanks, that made me laugh.

I've got an anterior placenta and I couldn't get the hb on a home doppler until after 14 weeks. I also went to triage to get checked for something else at around 19 weeks and the midwife couldn't even get it then with a medical grade one :dohh: I got scanned by the doc instead and everything was fine and when I had my scan later in the week I discovered the placenta position and that explained it all.

I went to the doctor yesterday. Baby stopped growing at nine weeks. No fetal tones are present. I would have been 12 weeks today. Thanks for listening.

Oh no!! I am so sorry. That is horrible news and I can't imagine how hard that must have been for you to hear. Were you spotting or cramping at all?

Just a few tips for doppler users:

- A full bladder usually helps
- Use plenty (tablespoon at least) of ultrasound gel
- Early on aim the doppler probe low, in line with the pubic hair line
- Try altering your position
- Move the probe slowly
- Make sure the doppler is fully charged
- Don't panic if you cannot pick the heartbeat up - the fetal heart is tiny and moving, moreso in the early stages. Take a break, go for a walk and try again later or the next day.

Tip for those with a retroverted/tipped uterus: Try it with a totally empty bladder.

Lol i know the feeling, i've been picking the heart up since 8 week6 days. I get it maybe 50% of the time. You will get it in time:D
