I'm in utter disbelief this morning after waking up from an 11 hour sleep to find my babies still snoozing they got up half an hour after me....... Now up until yesterday I had been using the calpol plugin in their room as they have both had a cold for over a week and Mason developed croup which is getting better day by day. The cold itself didn't really bother them very much but at night they were very congested and just generally unsettled. Unfortunately this isn't just the cold making them like this we have been like this for weeks now I'm getting up on average 3-5 times a night.

Anyway I ran out of the refill pads for the plugin and they are a fortune nearly £6 for 5 little pads so wondered if I could replicate the aroma it was making a slight difference but the only thing was I found they didn't last the full night and dried out very quickly. So I contacted a friend of mine who's sister is an aromatherapist and she made a blend for me that I could add to the old pads and insert into the plug in and wow it smelt amazing and still smells wonderful this morning now with one baby I would say maybe a coincidence or fluke but two babies?!? It was a blend of chamomile lavender and eucalyptus...... Just wondering if anyone else uses essential oils to help with illness and to promote a good night sleep?? I could get used to this lol I'm going out today to buy another plugin for my own room house smells like a spa so relaxing :) and we have two very happy refreshed little babes and one very refreshed mummy!!!

Coincidence or not....the feeling of 11 hrs sleep when u have twins must be amazing! I'm going with not coincidence based on that u have two...but hey, who knows?

Hope it's long lasting for you. X

I would say it's not a coincidence especially if both babies slept so long. I guess that blend of essential oils is very relaxing for them. Hope this continues! :)

Wow so do you think it's the oils that are helping?
I use the cal pol plug In also as my baby is very snuffly/chesty but they refuse to give me anything for it, I go through a box of refills a week lol! Do you think maybe putting the pads into baby Olbas oil would be the same?

Glad that ur getting a good sleep! :) hope it continues

I honestly don't know but I can't think of anything else!!! I don't think olbas oil is very strong and I think it has menthol it which is why you can only use a couple of drops on a tissue it can't be used as vaporisation at this age....... Just check this morning you can pick up 3 bottles of essential oils in boots for £10 would last a few months a couple of drops of eucalyptus and 4 of lavender would be good on the pads then put it in the plugin :) x

Thanks I'll have a look for some :) the baby olbas one doesn't seem to be as strong so I was thinking like a drop of the oil in water and soak the pad but I'll try get the oils you said instead :) thanks
I'm constantly getting the calpol refill which is getting a bit pricey lol! X

My oh has used oils on dd for massage since she was born and she has slept through the night from a few weeks old so I definitely think its the oils we use lavender oil mixed with almond carrier oil it works for us :)

I have used almond oil mixed with lavender oil from birth ... up until recently as he's now too active for massages and ... my LO has always been the world's worst sleeper. so don't think it works for everyone :haha:

This week my LO has had a cold so we have been using a bowl with boiling water with a few teaspoons of vicks next to his crib and it's really helped a lot.

Olbas oil is also very good.
