My lo is 12 weeks old next week, i have two questions really, im really trying what i can for him to go longer at night at the moment, dont even mind if its not all night, just a 5hr slot would be nice, he currently has a good routine, he has 6oz per feed t 7am,11am,3pm,7pm and when we go to bed around 10.30/11ish pm, then wakes between 2.30-3.30am, so a total of 6 bottles, it would be ideal to eventually cut out the 2.30am bottle. He finnishes his bottles most of the time, but i would say he exactly drains them, he is very windy and often struggles with the last oz.My two questions are:

If he doesnt wake on the 4hrs for a feed then should i wake him as im always contious that we wont fit his last feed in, or should i not worry about that and always try him with his last feed even if he doesnt wake for it(as it may of only been 3hr slot. On the flipside, my worry is that if im waking him at 4hrs he is getting used to this pattern and he will struggle to do longer at night, the last few nights he has only had 3oz, which is frustrating as he doesnt seem like he really needs it. Im also wondering whether to try him with 7oz on his last feed to try and push him through the night.

Im aware that im sure he'll do all this in his own time but i have a three year old that is going through a phase of terrible night terrors at the mo so im constantly up with him so as a result im barely getting any sleep.

Thankyou for reading, hope it makes sense as iv rambled on a bit.xx:wacko:

Lots of parents do whats called a "dream feed" at around 10-11pm before they go to bed. You give your lo a feed but try and make it so they dont wake up for it and just feed while asleep. This is supposed to help them sleep longer at night (dont know if its true as never tried it!). So maybe if your lo doest wake at the 10-11pm feed he will get out of the habit of 4 hourly waking and sleep through? Its not garunteed, and I would say the majority of babies dont sleep through the night anyway at 3 months, I think 6 months is a more usual age they start sleeping through. xxx
