15kg weight limit on pram?! Am I wrong in finding this really low?!

Most of them are 15kg because that's what they're required to be tested to or something and it's apparently the weight of the average 3 year old (remembering weight gain tapers off a lot as well).

I'm really confused! My pram (and my pushchair too) both have weight limits of 15kg or up to 3 years. That's 33 pounds. My 8 and a half month old weighs 23 pounds. So in 10 pounds time she can't use her pram?! Or pushchair?! Am I just being dumb or will this mean she will be well too heavy for it way before 3 years? I'm seeing my "investment" fade before my eyes lol.

Your girl is quite big. My boy was the same, and he is now 41lbs at 29 months, well before age 3. Unfortunately what happens is that it starts to stress the frame and the seat becomes too narrow, especially with winter clothing on :( This is why I have basically had to use either my Ergo carrier or my cheetah stroller (jogging double b/c I just had a 2nd) with 100lb capacity (and the price to match I'm afraid).

I was never able to find a single stroller to fit him past 2! So, I suppose I'm glad I never bought an expensive single stroller.

Yes lots of them taper off! Some don't. Mine didn't. I'm not sure about UK strollers but here I got this one which has a 100lb limit (and 2 seats, I think it's 75lb limit for 1 seat).

Her weight gain may slow down a bit? I have a large double pram, the main seat holds up to 20kg and the second one up to 15kg.

To be honest, even though Thomas is pretty short, he's already looking a bit cramped in the main seat anyway. He's 13.6kg and his weight has been the same for a while now. It goes up and down 200grams or so every now and then.

Oh dear lol knowing my luck and the fact we love our pram, she won't taper haha :dohh: best start saving :'( :haha:

I feel mean saying it but I hope so lol. It took me forever to pick this one it will drive me potty hunting down a stronger one :haha:

Pretty sure my i'coo stroller is good to 45lbs ...i remember thinking that seemed quite high

Yep - but I think that that is in line with the 50th %ile (i.e. average size) of a 3 year old. It's also recommended that you phase out the use of the pushchair by 3 years so I don't think they expect you to use them much up to that point.

The tapering is true. Earl was nearly 28lb at 1 year, and then at 2 weight 35lb and now weighs 38lb at 3. He has grown like a weed in this time, and slimmed off massively and does still fit when I have had to put him into the 3D on occasion (blue moon when this happens lol), and into the umbrella stroller too. I think they have a low weight limit so if you use it beyond that and it breaks it's your fault. However, my Silver cross especially will take a shed load of weight without buckling. I suppose it depends on what you use it for etc.

My niece hit 15kg just before her 3rd birthday, she was wearing age 3-4 and the occasional 4-5 in clothes. And still fit into the Silver Cross umbrella stroller (though her legs were kind of folded). I've also seen a 5 year old with 2 ankle casts in an umbrella stroller.

Like a pp says, I think it's a case of 'if you break it it's your own fault'. If you're using it regularly with the same child (rather than putting a much heavier child in as a one-off) I would guess you would see signs of stress such as fraying fabric rather than it suddenly collapsing.

Ours also say 15 kgs (both buggies). Omar was almost 12 kgs at 1 yr, but he's 15.5 kgs now. His weight gain really slowed down. I still use the buggies from time to time (he doesn't need them all the time but I take it with me just in case he gets tired).

One of them squeaks everytime we use it, it doesn't make a noise when he's not in it so I'm sure it's his weight  I also load it with shopping bags, my handbag & Omar's back bag, so I think it's taking over 18 kgs without much complain

I'm going to continue using the buggies until they break, i'm not really bothered about the weight limit, as I couldn't find a light weight buggy in the market that goes beyond 15 kgs

Ooh I didn't even think of the weight of shopping and stuff :O I've probably gone over 15kg loads of times in that case lol :haha:

My chunk is 21lbs at 4 months. Hate that we will have to swap to a buggy probably not that long after she is one as I love her facing me. :( But you can get buggies that go up to 20kg you just have to look for them xx

We switched to a buggy at 6 months, we have two buggies & both are still fine. We used them a lot during those 2.5 yrs, & as I mentioned I load them with shopping bags & one of them travelled with us twice. Omar wasn't comfy in his pliko Pramette when we switched to the pushchair mode, it doesn't take over 11 kgs anyway, so it was a bad investment.

I just forked out $169 for the second seat that goes with my steelcraft strider today, somehow I don't think Sophie will get all that much use out of it! It already looks kinda small.

The stroller is massive though with a really solid frame, I'd have no worries about going over any of the weight limits. It can hold me and I'm close to 180lbs.

I read somewhere (now don't quote me on this!) that they have to be suitable up to 15kg but they are actually tested up to 21kg, to allow for things like shopping, etc! Holly is 38lbs, so 16.5kg, way before her 3rd birthday! She doesn't really go in a pushchair anymore, but if she does then I just put her in a stroller with a 15kg limit... it's not broken yet lol

My eldest and my second youngest were 15lb by the age of two and just too big and heavy for their pushchair, in both cases their pushchairs did get pushed to the absolute limit and kind of just flopped lol. My eldest was quite sensible but my second youngest wasn't sensible walking until he was at least 4 and even recently he can be quite silly, running off in shops etc, my kids though tend to gain weight a bit in reverse though; they don't gain as well in the first year but gain above average in the second and end up being on the upper centiles by the age of two xx

Congratulations on your pregnancy summer rain! I keep meaning to say that every time I see you post.
