16/17 week midwife appointment Doppler question

I have my 16 wk appt tomorrow, I'm hoping to hear the HB, won't be happy if she doesn't get the doppler out!

I think my next appt is at 24 weeks but that's with my GP and this is my 1st pregnancy. After that i think I may see a midwife at 32 or 34 weeks, I can't remember.

Should be every 4 weeks to begin with on your first then moves to every 2 when you get close to the end. So after 24 you should have one at 28

I know at 28 weeks I have my glucose test. I suppose that'll be with the midwife too, so yep every 4 weeks.

Thanks for all the responses ladies. I will be able to update tues as seeing midwife then. I will be 17 w 3 d. Hope I do get to hear it. The 20 w scan I have booked seems so far away!!! Did you dh/oh go with you to this appointment? Just wondered as don't want him missing out on anything important!!!?

Im in UK and they let me hear it at 16 weeks. She said I might not hear it and if I didnt it was normal not to. If they dont mention it and you want to hear it just tell them you are aware that you might not hear anything but you would like them to try.x

That's really crap! I think why be in a job if you don't want to be the best and offer the best care?! I can't even believe you don't see the midwife until the end? I wonder if it's an area thing? I just got the impression the nhs was consistent throughout! I think after the 16 weeks, it's again at 24 weeks too, and then again when due date gets closer. You could have a look into it and perhaps change your midwife, I wonder?

Hmmm that's interesting, I looked in my book and low and behold I do not have a line through 24 weeks. I'm going to call my regular midwife on Monday because another appointment is usually booked while you are there, but this ice-queen just told me to call and book at 38 weeks!!! I doubt I would have noticed this had you not mentioned this, Thanks! This woman is getting worse and worse, wow!

I have just looked at my notes and for the 24 week appt it's only with the first preg, however it does state routine fetal grwoth appts for weeks 28, 34, 36, and 38 no matter which number pregnancy. Definitely give your regular midwife a call, especially if she is actually a nice one :-) Maybe even mention that you weren't offered to listen to the HB at 16 weeks and you could wangle a cheeky visit

Called my regular midwife and she was apologetic for the way I was treated. Booked me in for sometime in August (assuming that's 28 weeks) and will see me next week to explain the hemoglobin levels to me, as this other woman refused to answer my questions and just said I would need to talk to the hospital. Can't believe this woman is a midwife!!

Cheshire, good that you've got another appointment, I can't believe how unprofessional and rude that midwife was!

I have just come back from my 16 week appointment and heard the HB...took a while as seems to be a wriggler!

I'm also just back from my appointment and I heard the heartbeat! I was worried she wouldn't be able to find it as I'm quite a big girl but she found it straight away, nice to hear it it! :)

I only see the GP for my check-ups between scans, not the midwife. The doctor listened to the HB at my 16 week appointment, I think it is standard practice in my surgery, she said she would listen at every subsequent appointment as well. It took a while to find the HB at 16 weeks, they have so much more room to hide, but she said she would not stop until she could locate it, and after an anxious 5 minutes, there it was!

Oh yay, that's good to hear, glad you have something sorted, and atleast your regular midwife is much more helpful :flower:

Hopingitwill: I would definitely take your partner to your appt, I'd say everything is important and an opportunity for them to be involved as much as poss :-) Hope your appt goes well. I was able to find the HB by myself with my doppler at 14w4d, so hopefully you'll have a greater chance of finding yours :flower:

I wouldnt take OH with me as its just standard checks like BP etc. IMO its a complete waste of time for OH to be there. Id definately take him to the scan of course but not a standard midwife appointment. x

I was asked if I wanted to hear the HB at my 16 week appointment but she did say that the recommendation was for 24 weeks. This is my second pregnancy and my next appointment is at 24 weeks.

I wouldn't bother taking OH to the 16 week appointment, she just asked how I was and took my BP and then felt my bump. Didn't take long at all.
