1st fertility appointment

i have my 1st fertility appointment tomorrow.
I have heard different things from different people,

do we just have a chat about my and hubbys life style?

do i have bloods taken?

Do i have in internal?

i wish i just knew what to expect!! i guess i havent got long to wait now. Looking forward to it and scared at same time xx

I think it varies depending on where you are. I'm in the U.S., and we discussed my history and my DH's and then he did a vaginal u/s. I had brought in my temperature charts as well, so we went over those. He did not do bloodwork because I was on CD 15 or so of my cycle, and the bloodwork they do for fertility testing is day-specific. For example, I'm going to have several tests on CD 3 of my next cycle (if I don't get a BFP!), which are for estradiol and FSH, which I guess they only test on that day. Progesterone, on the other hand, is always tested on or around CD 21.

So, it's hard to know what to expect. I think it will depend on how long you've been trying and what your cycles are like. If they suspect you aren't ovulating (that was not an issue for me), they might do some different tests at the first appointment. Hope that helps!

My first appointment, they did some blood work and took a history. That is pretty much it. The next appointment, they went over my blood work, put me on Clomid, and told me to chart.

i just had my first appointment last friday, and we went over my history, and i have to go through lots of tests before they start treatment, because AF is very irregular, he made me do blood work to make sure i wasnt pregnant, and starting me on meds to get AF to come, then cd2-4 i have to get ultrasound and bloods, and cd4-8 i have to get a tube test, and from cd10-ovulation i have to go in everyday and have ultrasound and bloods then once that is all done he will talk about treatment with me. it was all very overwhelming, DH couldnt come with me because he just got a new job, and i just got in my car and bawled haha, it was all so much to hear and all the tests. but good luck with your appointment!!!!!

ourfate - I can totally relate! I thought I'd feel better after the appointment, instead I was crying and have been totally freaked out ever since! This process just gets more and more mystifying--instead of more answers, I honestly got more questions!

yeah me too!!! i have a million questions, and its been going through my head all day since!! i was so excited to go but after i was thinking why me, why cant i just get pregnant the old fashion way. but we just have to think that we are doing this because it is helping us get what we all want so badly! thats the way im trying to think. just to get me through the day! i just cant wait to get all this testing done!!

Hey, thanks ladies!!

Well I'm in the uk, I'm CD11 so not sure what they would do, I've heard from a few people that they would have to go in everyday til ovulation, my boss would not like that 1 little bit!!
I hope I don't feel upset when I get out x

had a pregnant lady and she was quite rude and not very nice!

she just asked questions and i said about my irregular peroids, and the 1st thing she said was, so are you on a diet plan? i thought well way to say it nicely eh, got the nurse to weight me and work out my bmi, im 31 and should be 27, she said that even if i lost 10% of my body weight it would help my cycles regulate again.

anyway so i have to have bloods taken on cycle day 27 (would be 21 for normal people ha) for 3 months so see if i ovulate, and have to wait to get the appointment for an ultra sound and hubby has to ring up and do a sperm sample, just got to see where he has to take it x

i feel ok about it but best get on losing some weight eh, coz if i go back to her again and i havent lost anything shes gunna say do you want this or not, she did say its worth to lose abit if your going to put your all in, i best she got pregnant 1st month!!!!

On our 1st apt with the FS she went over our medical history asked a billion questions went over my hubby's SA test and I had a vaginal ultra sound then I was told to come back another dayfor blood work after I was checked for any tube blockage since all that was normal she game me some clomid to try but was also given other options we could look into

Ugh. She sounds terrible! You'd think that if you were a pregnant doctor treating women who were concerned about NOT being able to get pregnant, you'd be ALOT more sensitive. But good you have something to get started on. I hope the bloodwork and your hubby's SA check out well!

I told a fib but I am on my 11th month x
