Hi,

Ive finally got my appointment with the fertility clinic next monday I'm just wondering what they do on the first meeting?? Basically been TTC for over 2 years I have PCO ( only have cysts one side, bloods etc all normal ) and haven't had a period for coming up to a year now, though had 3 days of spotting on new years eve but stopped-not sure what that could be??hubby has been tested everything ok about from morp which is low. I'm hoping for clomid u think they will give it on my first appointment ( already had bloods etc done at docs) many thanks

I had my first appt 12 days ago. I live in Canada. They did a detailed history a swab and sent me for a ton of blood work. I'm also scheduled for an hsg test to check for tube blockage.
On my follow up appointment I'm to have an ultrasound and dh to have a more detailed semen analysis.

Hope that helps. Also I brought any and all info I had on me to my appt. previous blood work dh semen anaylsis etc

I live in Northern Ireland.

What you have to remember is every area is different and every doctor in that area is different.

1st - Oct 2010 - Ran more blood work (I'm seriously considering charging the amount I had taken since we started TTC) Had an US done using the magic wand with loads of KY. Yep, it's internal and messy. Hubby was sent for an SA (his fourth I might add, all said the same - super sperm)
2nd - March 2011 - Discussed results and was given Clomid to try for six months with monthly scans to check for ovulation.
3rd - November 2011 (was supposed to be September but my doctor had to perform emergency surgery) - Review appointment after Clomid. Put on waiting list for injections and in the mean time I am to continue with Clomid as I ovulate on it at least (again monthly scans) and without it the chance of my ovulating or even having a period is the grand total of zero.

Like I say, everyone i different though.

Good luck, fingers crossed for you. X

Princess Lou, was that at RV / Grove? I have my first appointment coming up at the Grove Wellbeing Centre after being referred by consultant x

I am from Canada. Every doctor and clinic is different. At my first appointment they asked me a whole bunch of questions. After that I had about 30+ vials of blood taken from me. They did an SA on DH and took only 4 vials of blood from him. I was instructed to call them on CD1 to make appointments for CD3 blood work and an ultrasound, a saline sonohystergram, (a test where they inject saline into your uterus to check for polyps), A pap smear, and cycle monitoring by ultrasounds starting on CD10. Normally, they make their patients do an HSG, but my doctor suspects endometriosis, so I'm going to have a laparoscopy and a dye test at the same time. After all of my tests were done I made a follow up appointment with my fertility specialist to discuss treatment.

Now I go to the fertility clinic all of the time for cycle monitoring. It feels like I live there at times.

The first two were at RV but due to the construction going on in that building (almost done) they are holding the appointments at Grove, Clomid scans are still at RV though. They have finished with the maternity are but still working on the fertility area. If you have to go to RV for scans or anything before it re-opens, Floor 2, Ward D. If you get Dr Agbaje - I think that's how you spell it - be warned, he is tall, dark and very handsome - take a tape recorder, he talks very fast and covers a whole subject in a minute, but he is good. Lol.

sorry should add me and husband already have a 3 year old so we know its possible, doesn't that change things? Ive had a smear, bloods, hubby had 3 SA etc just before xmas, will they still repeat all this as it was just quite recent xxx

Also as my last period was nearly a year ago will they give me something to bring one on? As soon people are told to go back on certain days of their cycle, well as i don't have one at all not sure how that would work? x

Hi Jenlouise I saw the FS for the first time on Wed. I am in Edinburgh (not sure where about you are in Scotland) I have PCOS. I had had the scans bloods etc and OH had SAx2. We both had weight height and BP taken and then a long chat with FS. He was very lovely and sent me home with provera to take for 7 days and clomid to start on day 3 of my cycle. It was completely uncomplicated and not stressful at all. The nurses were lovely and told me to call them any time for help of advice. I hope you have the same experience xxx

Hi, thank you for replying. SO they did all of this on the first appointment, thats good as i was worried that they would repeat everything that i had done just before xmas and was worried about wasting time. i really do hope that that what happens with me and get the clomid. Best of luck of your journey and baby dust to every one too :) xxx

Yes I was very surprised to be leaving with the clomid I couldnt believe it I was expecting more blood tests and an internal scan which I was dreading like you wouldnt believe!! But no none of that it was all very straightforward and if the clomid hasnt worked we go back in June. He made everything sound so easy! Let us know how you get on xx

Hey as promised above I had my first FS today in Northwick Park Hospital in London. He had my hormone results and OH semen analysis. He asked if my periods were regular and when my last one was. Then he sent to have another blood test done to check for pregnancy because i'm going to have a "Hysterosalpingogram" (x-ray of he uterus (womb) and fallopian tubes) to check and see if my tubes are blocked. But if I am pregnant then the dye they inject into my womb and tubes could cause harm to the baby.
He was great and told me to ring them on the first day of my next period so they can make an appointment for the x-ray (needs to be done between the 8th - 15th day of your cycle) and to use protection or avoid sexual intercourse so i don't fall pregnant.
Then I'm to see the FS again and that appointment is for 3 months time (april) ad there is a 3 month waiting list for the x-ray procedure!!

Thought things would happen sooner than this but he said there is no point in giving me meds to regulate my cycle if the tubes are blocked.

So fingers crossed I get my period soon and my tubes are all ok.

Good luck everyone xx

I'm glad to hear those with initial appointments are moving forward. I was scheduled for hsg(X-ray) tommoroow but I'm still bleeding. It's day 20
So praying for next week. Maybe we can have a thread since we are just starting out?

Hi ladies
Had my first apt today with NHS (previously had a private apt & tests).
Princess lou - how right you are, he is cute ;-)

Chat about cycles & my mc.
Internal scan to look at womb & ovaries - all looked ok.
Blood tests - AMH & rubella
Clymidia swab (sorry about spelling)
DH referred for SA but we managed to get a cancellation, so that also done today.
Will be called back within 3mnths to discuss results and what next. Because of our age & situation, it is likely we will go on ivf waiting list at next visit and waiting times are 12-18 mnths. If the AMH comes back as low as I think it will we will prob go for a private cycle while waiting for NHS.
Good luck ladies x

hi My First Noodle - i am also being referred to Northwick Park Hospital, living in Harrow
my doctor is GP Direct - i went on 28th Dec when i was told they would write a referral letter - phoned to chase today and she forgot to write.........
anyway moving on from that, how long did you wait for your appointment????
we have had bloods, SA and i am waiting for an internal scan
xxx
