I've just found out from my midwife that at 39 +4 baby is 2/5 engaged. I first found out my little girl was 3/5 at 35 +4, so she's heading in the right direction! This is my first baby and the midwife has said she's highly unlikely to move back up, so I'm just wondering, how long after your first baby was 2/5 engaged did you go into labour?

I'm afraid this is going to be one of those frustrated, "how long is a piece of string" threads, but thanks for any replies :flower:

With my first baby I was 2/5 engaged for weeks before going into labour (I had him at 39+4), and my bump remained quite high right up until he was on his way out.

I was 1-2/5th two Fridays ago, last Friday I was a definite 2/5th and on Monday I found out I was fully engaged, having very mild contractions for a couple days now but nothing good enough as I'm still here!

is 5/5 most engaged, or is 0/5 most engaged???? dumb question but this always confuses me lol xxxx

5/5 engaged means baby's head is free, 2/5 means the midwife can feel 2 5ths of the baby's head outside the pelvis (so 3 5ths is inside). Not a stupid question at all! :)

Actually 5/5th engaged is fully engaged, 5/5th palpable is free

Stalking this, mine's 3/5's as of my 36 week check up, would love to think this means things are starting off!

i was 3/5ths at my 34 week app- i have another on thurs so i hope im more engaged!

tis confusing but at least all is going in the right direction and i was also curious as to how long it takes

good thread

I've just been to the drs and he said my baby's head is 3/5ths engaged/2/5ths palpable. I was so shocked at this because my bump hasn't dropped at all he's still right in my ribs i was expecting him to say the head is fixed but not engaged. Does this mean I'm having a long baby?? Also, I don't think this LO is anywhere near ready to arrive yet and I'm still convinced I'm goin to go to 42 weeks lol so I reckon labour can still be far off even though baby is engaged but that is just my opinion. Every baby is different so I hope you don't have to wait too much longer xx

with my first baby it took me one week to get into established labour from getting the startings :-(

get bouncing on a ball hun get that baby down low lol

Eek ive just had my 32 week check up and my midwife was 'surprised' as I'm already 2/5ths engaged. Think I might start taking it easy don't want bubba too early :-)x

Fin was FULLY engaged from 31 weeks... and he was still a week late babe. When they engage has no correlation to when baby actually arrives xx
