By nature I am a HUGE worrier and worry WAY too much.

Anyway, my nephew William was born late monday night, but due to being born 47hrs after mummies water broke, he now as an infection.
He is in the Neonatal ward in an incubator. He had a breathing tube but can breath by himself. He still needs monitoring as he has a bad infection. He can be taken out and held for a while and sometimes he needs a feeding tube back in. he is taking breast milk which should help him right??

This is something I have never had to experience and I want to be supportive for my brother and sister in law. The hospital has advised he needs to be in for 7-14 days and naturally my sister in law wants to be with him but also with Connor her older son.

Has anyone ever had a newborn fight an infection (i think its a Strep B but we dont know the actual infection)
Just need some kinds words, advice. Something to help support my brother and sis in law.

Just be there for them, ask them if there is anything you can do for them, don't push to be able to visit your nephew, and let them know you are there for them.

To be honest, hearing that another baby came through it ok isn't as much comfort as you may think.

well, all I can advise is the same as foogirl really. just be there for them; listen to her concerns and try your best to help her out with whatever-child care, hot meals, packed lunches.

my son had several infections whilst he was in SCBU but he was really prem and small for dates. he was in for several weeks not several days; it may not seem like it now, but honestly he will be home before you know it. usually they put a feeding tube in so that he's using his energy up fighting off the infection instead of on his feeds. most, if not all, babies admitted to SCBU have an NG tube fitted at some point.

hope he is all better really soon. thinking of him xx

Thanks guys.

Luckily he was as strong as anything and came home this week. Had a nice long cuddle with him today.
I worry toooooooo much!

Wonderful to know he is back home with his loving family!
