Hello!

Oliver is 2 weeks and i met the health visitor for the first time today and she saw me feeding him... and he finished a whole 120ml bottle so she said to offer 150ml from next feed onwards! But surely he is eating to much now? and she said if he is still eating as fast as he was today next time she sees me she might suggest hungry baby food!!

Before when i asked the midwife about it she said that im over feeding him

you cant overfeed them , he will take what he needs hun
not sure why they would suggest hungry baby milk because he is drinking his bottles quickly though? that makes all of no sense

If your LO is completely draining the bottle, it makes sense to make the bottle up to the next size. Although you might waste a little bit, at this age they increase very quickly.

You can't overfeed them when they are so young, so just let him have what he wants.

Hi hun, all babies are different some will drink less or more than the 'guideline' amount, which i take no notice of anymore! what i did was if jack drained a bottle i would add another ounce, it doesnt mean he would drain it every feed but if you have the extra ounce there if he wanted it, he could have it. I take Hv's with a pinch of salt go with your instincts i really doubt a baby would overeat at that age he is only having what he requires. As for the hungrier baby milk i would only suggest it if your lo is still showing signs of hunger after a feed not because he drunk the bottle fast?! Hth's hun xxxxxx

I made a mistake during the 1st mnth by controlling his feeds. Now I'm struggling to make him take more. Just give him what he wants, & when he starts sleeping for longer hrs his no. of feeds will start dropping.

Babies will let u knw when they'r full, just go with the flow & give him what he wants.

see i thought the same... just because he is drinking his bottles fast doesnt mean he needs to go on hungry baby milk.
We upped his feeds and he took about another 10ml than normal and dropped straight off to sleep which is good :)

i didn't want to read and run....
as everyone else has said, sometimes you have to ignore the docs when you know what's best for your LO. zander is nearly a month old and his doc wanted me to do smaller more frequent feedings but he didn't like that at all... we upped his ounces (twice now-- he now takes a 6 oz bottle) cause he wants to feel full and be able to sleep for a few hours. with the 6 oz bottles now he sleeps like 4-5 hours between feedings and he seems much happier that way. with the smaller bottles he was getting up every hour and a half to 2 hours and he hated it- he was so fussy cause he wanted to keep sleeping but he was hungry at the same time. (make sense? I hope so, I've lost my train of thought- sorry) anyway, you're doin the right thing for you LO!! :hugs:

My LO was on 4oz at 1 week!

Now hes on the normal amount, he miight just be having a growing spert :)

xx

I always just upped Evie's amounts as and when she was draining more than a bottle a day :) She's now on 6 oz per bottle, 5 bottles a day, altho she doesnt drain them, she'll usually leave about a teat full lol!
