I just got back from my 20 week scan. My baby's legs are measuring short. Like 2.5 weeks behind. He said everything else looks great. He didn't have any other concerns. Heart, brain, etc. all good. He wanted to see me back in a month but I couldn't wait that long so I will be seeing a specialist next Friday. I'm just so scared / nervous. Doctor also said that he wasn't concerned about Down syndrome and told me not to worry. Obviously, easier said than done. Anyone else have a u/s with short legs and turned out to be ok?

My baby girl is still 3 weeks behind on just her femur, and my doctors keep telling me it's no problem.. She may just be a little short. I'm due in 2 weeks, so I will come back when she comes out and show you a picture of her perfect little self so you don't worry so much. Try to relax! :hugs:

Thank you. I hope all goes well for you :).

My friend had this but baby just turned out to have short legs, nothing more scary than that. Good luck xxx

Did your scan at 20 weeks show she was 3 weeks behind with her femur then too? Or just now. I've read a lot of good stories on here about short femurs. I know that's the only thing my doctor said that he was wanting to watch. And he didn't say anything else about the baby having problems besides everything else being / looking completely fine. Baby is in the 50th centile with everything else besides femur. Femur was in 10th centile. And again he said that he was not concerned about Down syndrome. It's just this is my first and everything scares me.

I'm short 5'2 1/2". My husband is 6'. My family is short-er as well. My mom, my maternal grandma and grandpa. Don't know if that would make a difference. I told my doctor that.

My 20 week scan they were not 3 weeks, but still behind. They've gradually fallen further back as we go further here. Doc said no worries on Down syndrome for us as well.

Your little baby will be perfect no matter what. Has your doc suggested a late amino? If you wait until after 37 weeks then it wouldn't matter if it induced labour and would give you peace of mind before baby is born

I'm only 20 weeks. My doctor didn't seem worried at all. He basically said that we just need to monitor it but I need to tell you why you are coming back in for another scan. Otherwise, he wasn't concerned at all. Everything else looked good.

I have another ultrasound scheduled for next Friday. It's just the waiting that gets to me.

He isn't concerned with downs and specifically told me that. He did mention that though if I wanted to that they have the blood test now to check for Down syndrome.

I can't remember by how much but my lo's femur always measured small.

He's fine - 16 month and they look perfectly in proportion.

Try not to worry it's more than likely just because baby takes after mummy in height.

I know that baby probably does take after me and my side of the family. It's all just so scary. And of course I am a worrier. I'm trying to be strong for baby. This site definitely helps me a lot. Hearing from other mommys and their experiences and similar experiences helps. So please keep the words coming.

And I just keep thinking that baby is completely healthy other than short femurs.

I just wanted to add that I got my MaterniT21 results back today. Today would be the 6th business day, they came back normal. I am very pleased and happy. Now I just hope baby continues to grow. :). I go back for another ultrasound in 6 weeks.

Just following up like I said I would. My baby girl was born yesterday at 7 lbs, 7 oz and 20 inches long. Which is pretty damn perfect :)

Her femur measured over 4 weeks behind last sonogram (which was a week ago). And they came out looking beautiful. Her legs are so adorable and they look long! Also she had 2 soft markers for Down syndrome and she is perfect. Your baby will be perfect as well, so relax :)

You can't see her legs perfectly here, but you can get the idea of how good they look :) best of luck to you!!

Aw she's adorable! Congrats x

Just to add in the my DD was born small (5lb 1oz) and had very short legs at birth . She has remained on the 0.4th percentile for height since them, although her legs are now more in proportion than they once were. She was measuring average for everything at my 20 week sca so it wasnt even picked up!

and at my 20 week scan this time I was talking to the sonographer who said to me that they don't start their real growth profile until 28 weeks so I wouldn't worry if anything is slightly ahead or behind at this stage.

oh and Jeval - gorgeous little girl, congrats xx

Thank you so much for sharing. She is beautiful! And congratulations. :). Hope you and baby are doing well!
