So I had my 20 Week scan today @ 12:50, everything at first went beautifully, I got there on time didn’t have to wait long at all and our girl was behaving well and letting the sonographer see everything (unlike our little Esmee who at our 20 week scan was as awkward as anything) I was so happy to see her (sonographer confirmed it was definitely a girl) and relieved that everything was OK and that the reason why I haven’t been feeling kicks as much is because the placenta is face fronting meaning my kicks are being blocked. I then came off the bed, sat next to my husband and felt relieved everything was OK. She then starting putting the measurements into the computer…. Then asked me to lay back on the bed to re-measure… panic started to come over, she re-measured again and again the baby’s head, and told me that this MAY be because the baby was breech but the head is very narrow and small and is 161.9mm and that she wanted me to come back for a re-scan in 4 weeks. I asked her if this was a problem, she told me a) it could be likely because she was breech the head was a bit smaller b) I am quite small and my daughter was only 6lb12oz at birth at 38 weeks c) something else could be wrong and they would have to monitor me. She told me that it could be something to do with the placenta and not getting enough oxygen which made me so scared! I am now incredibly anxious and scared and when she mentioned the whole oxygen thing it scared the crap out of me. I have to go back 16th April 2014 @ 11:00am but that wait is going to kill me, I have tried calling my midwife to get a piece of mind of her and get her opinion as the sonographer seemed very miserable and I wish I had a different sonographer. I am super anxious super scared and just want this month to go by fast so I can relax

I've just had a google, and found this
https://www.baby2see.com/medical/charts.html

And head Circumference around 160mm seems about average!?

I'd Deffo ring your MW about that :(

Also, seen other mums here https://community.babycentre.co.uk/post/a17608565/post_your_20_week_scan_measurements

with measurements all around yours!!???

Thanks Claire :) I looked up on the charts and by head the baby is measuring 19 weeks

I am waiting for midwife to call me back xx

I haven't experienced this so I can't advise. I'm sure it was awful and scary, made worse by the fact that the tech was miserable. I know it's hard to stay logical and objective at times like these so I will try to do it for you.... We're not doctors so we can't say for sure (neither is the sonographer so nor can she) BUT, I would think it is far more likely that this supposedly "smallish" head is related to you being small (babe has your genes after all), your last baby being fairly small (mine was two lbs heavier--two POUNDS!), and haven't you written on here before about barely showing this time? She's probably just tiny, and female fetuses are usually smaller than males (so my OB always tells me). And try not to worry about breech--if that's the case. My son was breech till almost the bitter end and he was fine. Ended up with a rather large head in fact (ouch--trust me, a big head isn't good either). Yes, there's a chance it could be something else but given the above factors my guess would be no. Also, babies grow at different rates (just like individual women and their bumps--some grow gradually, others in fits and starts), so it's also possible her head is just a wee bit behind. There is no absolute with pregnancy/gestation/birth. As my OB is always telling me, your past history is the best indication of future history.... In all likelihood everything is fine. Eat well, rest, try not to panic, and let us know what your MW says. Four weeks is awfully long to wait.... Best of luck.

How worrying! Hope the next scan comes around quickly for you and everything turns out ok! in the mean time I would definitely be getting a second opinion, keep phoning that midwife!

Spoke with a midwife who said to call the head sonographer tomorrow who is in charge and she will personally look at the scan measurements herself xx

Ah well, least they didnt fob you off with a standard "Oh I'm sure its fine"

bah - gonna be a long wait till that phone call :growlmad:

Not sure why they're worried.

Your LO is measuring at ~19 weeks!

My boy was measuring 172mm, but when I was scanned, I was 20 weeks on the dot, and he has always measured about 4-5 days ahead.

I spoke with the Head of sonographers and she said the woman should not of tried to worry me and everything is absolutely fine xx

Oh dear, the sonographer who scanned you needs poking in the eye! So glad there is nothing to worry about!

OMG! What a relief!!! Honestly, I do wonder about some of these sonographers :( c

Glad she was wrong but I would be frustrated with her too! Worrying you like that..

It says 'Dolichocephaly' about the head so I just googled that and it means it's longer than usual, not a smaller circumference. The sonographer should have explained herself more clearly! It seems to say it can represent a syndrome or it can be completely normal so if the midwife and head sonographer are happy then I'm sure there's nothing to worry about x

If the sonographer was unsure of her measurements, she should have called the head sonographer in to take a look right then and there instead of worrying you. My oldest daughter has microcephaly (small head). Glad everything turned out okay!
