hello, I would like some advice.
on Thursday I went to the doctors as I had a really bad back ache (I have a history of a bad back doctors have put it down to muscle damage) so went to get it checked out. when I parked the car I got out and thought oh I need a Wee so I hurried and went straight to the toilet in the doctors surgery. (sorry if this is too much information) i pulled my trousers and knickers down and they were covered in blood. instantly I burst out crying and text baby's dad to get him to get to the doctors asap, after cleaning my self up I got out the toilet, still crying and went to the reception desk and said help im pregnant and bleeding!!! a nice lady who didn't work there comforted me while the receptionist got the doctor. I was hysterical. terrified
the doctor sat me down and we talked about the bleed. she then phoned the hospital and explained my situation.
my ex then turned up who drove me to the hospital. at the antenatal triage doctors and midwife's talked to me about the bleed and listened to the heartbeat which was fine and baby started moving a lot. then they had a look at my cervix the doc said there was a little blood on my cervix and because of that he wanted to keep me in for 24 hours to monitor me and baby.
the bleeding slowed down then finally stopped i was just getting a bit of brown blood when wiping witch apernatly is a good sign that the bleeding is ending. then i was aloud home to rest and I have to take two weeks of work and stay in bed as much as possible but not total bed rest. since being home im still getting a little brown when wiping and a tiny bit on a pad. is this normal??
baby has been really active since my visit to hospital which reassures me that he is OK.
my back stopped hurting as soon as the bleed started but since being home i am getting back pain again. im really worried the bleed will start again has anyone else been through the same thing???

I had this a bit earlier, at the very end of first tri, pretty much as you describe: really heavy red bleeding for a time followed by a week of spotting on and off. For me, they just thought it was a broken blood vessel, which really has nothing to do with baby at all and is pretty harmless. It's just one of those things that happens in pregnancy. As you are further along, there could be a few other things they want to look at, mainly the position of your placenta. If it's low or covering the cervix, it can cause 2nd and 3rd trimester bleeding, which again is usually harmless. Do you know where your placenta is located? If you don't, it should be noted on the report from your 20 week scan if you're in the UK. Otherwise, you might have to ask your OB or midwife. It could also be an old blood clot that never bled out in 1st tri. This again usually isn't anything serious, but it's something to keep an eye on. Do they have you scheduled for a follow-up appt or scan? In the meantime, try to rest and not stress about it as much as you can though I know that's easier said than done.

my scan report says placenta; high posterior normal structure normal.
i don't have any follow up appointments that i know of and my next midwife appointment is 10th January

just had some more brown gooey spotting is this normal??
how long approximately should this go on for??
im terrified that i will start bleeding again

I had a very sudden bad bleed at 12 weeks, I was in the worst pain I have ever been in. I went to the er they found "nothing" said everything was normal and things happen like that all the time. I knew the pain I was in was not normal. The next 3 weeks I bled on and off and every time I would go right to the doctor because it wasn't as much as the first time to go back to the er. Still nothing everyone shrugged it off and I was pissed because I knew something wasn't right!! Finally I saw a different dr after another bleed at 15 weeks and he thought I had pp. referred me to a specialist. I went, good news I didn't have pp but I had a placenta tear which caused a huge amount of bleeding. I had a huge blood clot siting on my cervix that the one dr thought was my placenta but wasn't. My placenta was were it was suppose to be! I then had to see my ob and the specialist both every 2 weeks. I was put on light duty everything, was not to walk or stand to much at all. I wasn't on bed rest but was suppose to rest most the time!
Don't let them give up on answer for you. There is a reason, if it was that much blood I would demand they look into it more because its NOT normal!!
Luckily I'm now 34 weeks and haven't had any bleeding since 17 weeks my last u/s was at 25+4 weeks which showed the clot had reduced a lot in size but was still there. There was a time I didn't think I would make it this far and I have and almost full term!

Good luck! I hope you get answers! Take it easy and pretty much do nothing. I know it can be hard but it's what's best for you and lo!! :hugs:

im terrified that i will start bleeding again

The brown blood will taper off in a couple days. The fear of bleeding again will sadly not go away. Or it didn't for me. Every time to this day if I have extra discharge I run to the bathroom looking to make sure it isn't blood. It will get better but it never has gone away for me! GL

thanks for your help. i am worried that my backs painful again but that could be the muscle damage. so im gonna try and chill out and relax

If you're in the UK, have you spoken with your midwife? Or at least let her know? If not, you can call the number at the midwife unit (there should be a 24 hour one) just to speak with them and let them know what you've been experiencing. You already had a scan at the hospital, but they might want you to have another at the EPU or to see a midwife sooner. So it's worth just keeping them posted. I know I've been told to call them right away if I see any more bleeding (I have a low-lying placenta, so we've discussed this a few times since I'm more at risk of bleeding later in pregnancy). More than likely, it will settle down even if you feel crappy for a few days. I know I felt like shit for a day or so after, more because I was worried I think, than because anything was actually wrong.

i am in the UK. i haven't seen my midwife but my midwife was at the doctors surgery the day all this started the doctor i saw there said she will let the midwife know. but i will make a call or an appointment to see her sooner just to ease my mind.
