My little girl is 3 weeks today - and she is breastfed only.
My DH weighed her today on our digital scale and she was 12.4lbs. Her birth-weight was 9lbs4oz and my weight is low end normal.
I think her weight is too big for such a young baby... thoughts? It's not like I can do much to change it - as she feeds on demand - and she is so young that I would never ever stop nursing on demand...
But I am worried about potential problems with having such a big baby (I've read large babies are more prone to childhood obesity).
I've also read big babies are generally better babies - less colicky and fussy. There is too much competing information out there.
Anyone with some input or thoughts?

I definitely wouldn't worry. My niece was a similar weight born (to a normal weight, fit mother) and gained weight rapidly like your LO and at 3 years old she is perfect, not fat at all. I wouldn't worry- breastfed babies don't put on 'too much weight' and are able to regulate their intake to fit their needs. All babies are different- I have a slow and steady kind but two of my friends have babies who have gained quickly and overtaken my baby despite being born lighter!

Oh by the way, my niece wasn't particularly colicky but she was sick a lot!

Don't worry my LO was 9lb 14 at birth and over 13 lbs by 3 weeks. Don't worry abit weight my health visitor was just delighted baby was growing so well. My LO is a great happy contented baby. Had abit of colic but has been easily dealt with dr brown bottles and colief.

My DD is 15 weeks today and HV came last Thursday to weigh her and she is 13 lbs 12 oz... She is BF only as well.... though she was only 6 lbs 3oz when she was born.

I wouldn't worry at all. You can't over feed a baby or have an obese baby. Obesity in children is from the wrong foods etc, your baby is just on breastmilk and is eating out of hunger only. My LO was quite big in the first few months but slowed down at four months and now she is quite small for her age. It all evens out in the end and I don't think there is anything to worry about at all.

Mine was 13lbs at his 3 week check up (and 8lb 6oz born). Also, my first was the same. He is now a lean but tall 40lbs.

The only problem with big babies is that they outgrow their car seats too early.

My daughter was 9lb 5 born, she dropped to 8lb 9 but was 12lbs 5 at 5 weeks and weight her in my arms on my digi scales, she's about 16lbs now at 12 wks. I was told BF baby's pack it on faster in the 1st 6mths and will then slow down. I wouldn't worry... Besides, buddah babies r beautiful IMO! :D

Don't worry at all my little one was 9lb 3oz at birth and was 13lb 6oz at 3 weeks. He is bf also, I have been told by mw that you can't overfeed a bf baby x

Thanks for all the replies. I can definitely see her our growing her carseat... But hopefully her weight tapers off eventually :)
