Out of the blue this afternoon I got sudden horrible stomach pain and felt very sick. I had a little bit of diarrheah and ended up vomiting a lot, I mean I must have thrown up everything in my stomach. I've had gastroenteritis once before - it felt like that. I'm lying in bed now still feeling ill but better than I did. Is this of concern/ should I call a midwife/ doctor?

The stomach pain was constant, not come and go like contractions so not labour.

I get that way when I get really bad BH contractions. They hurt my stomach so much that EVERYTHING possible I throw up or poop....Its quite gross and painful.

Is it possibly a stomach bug? I got one last week and was VIOLENTLY ill all night. It came on very quickly, and I couldn't keep anything down, not even water. Most of the pain in my stomach was at the top end of my bump.

The midwife assured me that baby would be okay (and he/she was happily bouncing away in there). It was just me that was miserable! The vomiting and diarrhea lasted about 12 hours and the nausea and stomach cramps around 24-48 hours. I didn't eat for two days.
Then to top it all off, I had absolutely manic heartburn for 4 days while my digestion righted itself.

If you need some reassurance, give your midwife a call and ask her what you should look out for in case it's anything other than a stomach bug.

Hope you feel better soon!

I had that last week too! It was horrible that I got a red eye because of the vomitting. I think it was something I ate that caused it.

I had it few times, though no vomiting. My guts have not been great since pregnancy and developed IBS. Take some probiotics, it really helps.

Thanks for the replies. I've had such a horrible night :( definitely seems to be a stomach bug. I called maternity assessment and they said not to worry, baby will be fine, it's just me who's feeling awful, like pp said!

I really hope it passes quickly, dh has had to take day off today to look after LO, which he can't really afford to do as he has so much to get tied up before baby comes!!

I'm now getting lots if cramping in my lower back - is this normal in a stomach bug? I'm worried that labour will start - as much as I'm so ready for this baby to come, I don't think I can manage it after feelingso bad and not sleeping all night!!

Depends on how low in your back the cramps are.

I had excruciating gas cramps for a couple of days afterwards and VERY sore muscles all around my diaphragm from vomiting constantly. Especially in my mid back, under my shoulder blade (it actually felt like a similar burning cramping pain that I had when I had an inflamed gallbladder - but I know it wasn't that this time because I had it removed 3 years ago!). Plus all that lying around in bed put alot of strain on my lower back and hips.

If you've had pretty bad diarrhea and vomiting it will take a few days to settle down. But if you're worried, or you can see a pattern to the pain, you should definitely talk to your midwife again.
