I noticed two specks of blood on the toilet tissue earlier. Literally just 2 pin prick sized dots. I've had increased discharge too.

Last visit to midwife was 3 weeks ago and I was 3/5ths engaged. Been getting loads of braxton hicks snd pressure gown below. Could the dots be the start of losing the mucus plug! Or something else? Maybe the cervix softening up?

How does it generally start? I didn't have this with baby number one as they broke my waters during a sweep at this point exactly and it all started so not sure what to expect.

I lost my mucus plug last Friday but no blood just gel like discharge clear & pale yellow. It might be your cervix softening up, my Doc has told me several times how the cervix gets sensitive with all the extra blood flow and says when she checks me I might experience spots of blood because of its sensitivity. I haven't yet too after 3 checks but that might be for you! I've been just shy of 2cm dialated and 50% effaced for a week now. Did you have sex recently that could have irriated your cervix?

Thanks for this.....I think it's just wishful thinking on my part!

Are you in the US? In the UK they don't do any internal checks usually until you go past your due date and have a sweep do it's not that that's caused it. And I definitely haven't had sex! We are having a heatwave here so what with that and my swollen ankles and general blah-ness I'm definitely not on board with sex!!

Sooo, I will continue with the symptom spotting and wishful thinking!!!

Yeah I'm in US and its so hot here, same thing swelling and no energy for anything lol

I had this in my first pregnancy - just a few pin pricks of bright red blood on my liner. That was around 38-39 weeks. I called the triage nurse in the maternity ward and they had me go in for an NST just to see and baby was fine (and I didn't go into labour until 40+5). I suspect it was just baby being engaged and kind of irritating my cervix from the top down, if you know what I mean.

When I actually lost my plug, it was thicker, gel-like mucus (clear/yellow/green with some occasional pink, red or brown), just as babyv described.

But good luck! I hope baby doesn't wait too long to come! :flower:

i didn't have this with my first 2 but did with my third, and it was the start of my plug coming away for good - i went into labour a couple hours later. fingers crossed, if you're worried id get checked though xx

40 + 5 sounds hard to me. Hope baby doesn't wait that long. My little boy was born at this stage so I was kind of hoping for the same!!

This would be ideal!
