Hello All!

This is my first post on this forum. My husband and I have started to TTC and I'm going crazy, googling everything and I feel so alone because I'm not ready to tell my family or friends. I'm excited to be a part of this community!

We DTD twice around the time I was ovulating (I use an iPhone app to help me know when I may be ovulating) so I've been wondering all month of course. I took a test on the day that AF was supposed to come and it was negative. I'm now 4 days late and took another test this morning but again, it was negative. I've been pretty tired and have had a lot of CM lately. I've dealt with a little bit of nausea but not in over a week. No other symptoms really.

I know I'm being impatient, but I guess my real question is whether or not any of you have had jet lag affect your period? I was on vacation across the country for a week and got back 9 days ago. Could this have made me this late?

Thank you so much for any help! <3 <3

Jet lag can affect ovulation so if you traveled around the time you were supposed to O it could be delayed.

Are you using OPKs or temping to track/confirm O? Are you recently off of birth control? This is my 7th cycle off of birth control and ttc My periods were 29 days apart until I had a chemical pregnancy. After that they have done whatever they want. Even going as far as being 15 days late. Talk about frustrating!

Anyways, I would keep tracking and figuring out your pattern. Stay patient and welcome to b&b :)

Hi khigg19!

I have been off of birth control for about 1.5 years. I didn't like how it was affecting me and decided to stop taking it even though we weren't "trying." We didn't travel until after I was supposed to be ovulating according to my phone app. I've been VERY regular for the past 5-6 months (tracking on my phone app and always get my period right on the predicted day). That's why it's really weird that I'm this late. I haven't used OPKs or anything, but DTD around the time that my iPhone app said I'd be "fertile."

I'm brand new to all of this so forgive me if I sound like I don't know anything haha. You say that jet lag can affect ovulation, can it also affect AF later on in the month?

Thank you for your advice!

Once you've ovulated, the luteal phase (that's the amount of days from O-AF) is set in stone/predetermined. So traveling after O wouldn't affect your cycle. Have you tested yet? Any chance you O'd later than normal? Do you pay attention to you cervical mucus (cm) around O?

Hi again,

No I didn't pay attention to CM around O, but I've been having a lot of discharge lately. I could have O'd later than usual as I was just using an app to determine when I would be ovulating. I took 2 tests and both negative. One morning, one night time.

I'm usually very regular and I'm worried that if I'm not pregnant, then something else may be wrong. Thank you for answering!!

Sorry your AF is so late and getting BFN's. I had this once and was about 2 weeks late with BFNs, even though I had a confirmed ovulation through OPK's and temping.

It's weird, I think mine had been caused by being poorly the previous month so potentially the jet lag could have caused it. So many things seem to affect periods, especially once we are paying attention to them!

However, as you were noticing lots of discharge the other day and the app was predicting as best it can but without extra tests, I'd say that sounds like possible ovulation so maybe for you O was late. It might help in your app to track any discharge etc if you can so your app can sort of learn from you. Initially the apps will use an average of data from everybody so they will likely set ovulation to day 14 of your cycle and for some women, it's not day 14. Mine was day 15 for example this month.

I hope you get some answers soon <3

It seems like it's pretty common for women to be inexplicably late their first month or two of TTC. It's like your body likes to play tricks on you. Could be the excitement and stress throwing things off. As much as I hate to say it, you're unlikely to get a BFP if you're getting negatives at 8 days late. I hope AF shows soon and things get back on track.

I definitely recommend paying attention to CM, because it can be a good indicator of when you ovulate, especially if you're not using OPKs or anything. If you ovulate later than average and you're only BDing based on averages, you're really lessening your chances of conceiving.

So I just wanted to update everyone in case anyone went through the same thing as me. Here's what I think happened: According to my phone app, I was supposed to ovulate around July 30th. We left for California on August 1, which I think pushed back my ovulation. Long story short, I got a BFN at the doctor (blood and urine test) on Friday (Aug 22), then took a HPT yesterday (Aug 26) and got a BFP!! I have no idea where I am in my cycle since I was traveling then got 4 BFNs. I'm anxious to go to the doctor to find out how far along I am and I'm praying and hoping that it's not a chemical pregnancy. Thank you all for your advice! Good luck to everyone!

Omg, congratulations! I love it when my pessimism is proven wrong!

Congratulations, that's fantastic news! Wishing you a happy & healthy 9 months xx
