Hi all,

My 4 wk old is using his legs to roll himself onto his side when sleeping. I know the rules are to ensure they lie on their backs, so should I be worried?

Is the risk that he may roll onto his front?

Should I keep rolling him onto his back again?

My lo did this and my mw told me that if he put himself there then that was fine. He didn't roll onto his front until much later. It turned out that my lo was very happy on his side and we decided to let him side sleep. He still does now.
Basically, back sleeping is the safest. Side sleeping is not as safe, but is still better than tummy sleeping. It is up to you. If you feel ok with it then leave him. If the thought panics you then roll him back.. but wait till he's asleep first!!! lol

my lo sleeps far better on her side during the day then when it is darker and quieter at night she sleeps just as soundly on her back, i have her next to me in the living room at the moment during the day so i am always checking on her.

my son was the same actually preferred sleeping on his side, i have noticed that both of them stopped doing that arm jerk thing that startles them and wakes them when they slept on their sides. . . thats prob it . . i read some where that if they put themselves there it is fine. also i read if you ensure the arm they are sleeping on and the leg they are sleeping on is placed outwards (sorry cant think of the right word) it prevents themfrom rolling onto their bellies

our little one has slightly started rolling on her side too, I have seen some things that you get in the JoJo Maman Bebe winter 2011 brochure which is a head and body support in memory foam (looks like it will fit in a moses basket) and is £18. There is also a "sleep positioner" at £15

Its got like a "buffer" at each side of their body and stops them rolling and keeps them on their backs. Might get one of these if our LO keeps doing acrobatics!!! Theyre on line if you pop them in google hunny :flower: xx
