Hi

Just wondering if anyone else sufferers with extreme eczema?

Dd started school a week ago and her eczema has flared up all over her body more so in the creases and in her under arms. I feel so sorry for her it looks really sore and she keeps itching and crying. I have bought e45 cream and cut her nails. I'm going to try and get an ap with gp on Monday.
I'm not sure if it's the uniform or starting school what's triggered it. She had it a little when she was a baby but it had since gone. I had it when I was younger it's horrible.

Any one have any ideas on how to either cure it or ease the symptoms?

My 4yr old also has it pretty bad. I don't remember the last time her skin was clear! She gets it worst on her legs/backs of knees and sometimes it is so raw and sore looking. I find that applying aveeno cream a couple of times daily, and keeping her legs bare helps, where possible she wears a pinafore with socks to nursery and she always strips in the house anyway. I always have hydrocortisone cream handy but don't really like using it unless it is really needed

Thank you, so the cream doesn't clear it just manages it. I'll have a look in boots for it x

I would get to the doctors they can prescribe something for her xx

It does pretty much clear it, my dds legs get really angry and red, and after a few days on constant cream, it pretty much goes (although is still very rough, the redness goes away though) but she gets random flare ups, the cause of which I have no idea, so end up back at square one. I would definitely go to the doctors who can prescribe something stronger. Steroid cream is good for when it is especially sore.

What make of washing powder do you use? I don't know what the best one recommended for eczema is but my kids react to anything other than fairy liquid, I know its not much help but just wanted to throw it out there, hope she settles soon xx

I had a quick search and it recommends Boots sensitive or Surcare :)

^^ thanks non bio ones. It's just so weird how she started school and the next day had a massive flare up all over. She wears a shirt, pinafore, cardi and knee high socks. Wish it was warmer would put her in a summer dress a lot lighter. X

Could be her uniform irritating her? My DS used to get it really bad as a reaction to some foods. I also used tobhetvthe rally bad between 6 months and about 8 to the point of occasionally being hospitalised for steroid and bandages to be wrapped around me when really young. I did grow out of having it that bad though.
Things I've found that help now are not shying away from steroid creams when absolutely needed (although be careful not to overuse). Slapping on aveeno several times a day when cleared. Pure potions skin salvation from boots treats some flare ups on DS, we find its worth a try before getting the steroid creams out.

We use oilatum bath additive and oilatum junior cream, and hydrocortisone when its really bad. 3/6 of mine have it.

I'm not sure if it's related but I wonder if it can be caused by a bit of emotional stress as well? It's been so nice having her in her own clothes this weekend and letting skin breath. On the phone to the dr first thing. X

Have you heard of the Child's Farm brand? My LO has luckily never had anything like eczema but my friends wee one does and she swears by it.

I've seen it in the news a lot lately

Hope that helps :)

Aww thank you. The nurse prescribed a steroid cream and a eczema cream which we are having to apply through out the day. We are also giving her an antihistamine medicine orally which helps with the itching. So far it seems to be working so fingers crossed xx
