This was my fourth pregnancy and I have had previous quick deliveries, 9 hours, 2 hours and 1 and a half hours. I was therefore booked in for an induction at 41+1 to ensure I didn't deliver at home or in the car! I wasn't allowed a home birth due to risk of haemorrhage.

I had a pessary at 10am, and then my waters broken at 4pm. Labour started quite soon after my waters were broken. I was checked at 5.30pm and told I was 4cm. I was quite disappointed as I was in so much pain and thought I wanted to push. I asked for gas and air as couldn't cope without any pain relief.

I was in my own world on the gas and air thinking I was going mad as I wanted to push, yet I was only 4cm?! The midwife was chatting at the door when I told my husband I had to push. Two pushes and my baby boy was here at 5.48pm. The midwife ran over and handed him to me, there were no towels or a crib as she wasn't expecting him so soon... she sent my husband out looking for towels while she checked baby. Apart from being a bit cold (probably as he didn't have a towel!) he was perfect.

Rufus is now 12 days old and I love him to bits xx
