Seriously i think i have the greediest child in the world!! Iv had to stop breast feeding cause im on really strong medication so hes on bottles now we started him on SMA because im not keen on any other formula and he was feeding every 3 hours and literally demolishing 4oz (which is the guideline to what a baby his age should be on) in 1 we have to stop him half way through to wind him so hes not as sick when he finishes. But after every feed he has been routing for more and we try him with his dummy to see if he wants that but he just spits it out and cries for more milk, hes just had 8oz in the space of an hour and half....could this be bad for him feeding so much or is it ok? anyone got any ideas what we can do so hes not feeding then wanting more straight after  xx

I can't help with formula as I BF, but I'm sure my LO ate more than 4oz at a time. It's hard to know because I BF, but if I pumped I got way more than that and she always drained my boobs. Plus at a month there's a pretty good growth spurt that can make them want to feed constantly! x

He will eat what he needs. Some people believe u can over feed a baby but I don't agree with that.

Hungry baby milk doesn't really do much for hungry babies u can just give him extra ounces of stage 1 milk :)

It's fine...your baby isn't greedy...you just need to feed him as much as he wants. He may be going through a growth spurt or need the extra hydration. It doesn't really sound like that much to me. Please don't limit your feedings based on what some guideline tells you he should be having based on age (as age has nothing to do with it anyway- it's weight.) Even with the weight, it's just an average.

Also, you are supposed to stop and wind them as they eat - half way through is not an excessive amount. Many parents need to do it every 1-2 ounces. It sounds as if you have a baby who is still hungry, please let him eat as much as he wants, it will not hurt him.

i wish i could still breastfeed him cause he got what he needed when he needed we only have 4oz bottles so well just fill them up alittle bit more then 4 oz til we get our big ones tomorrow.
i was worried that we would over feed him but i suppose if hes hungry we cant let him starve xx

Ignore the guidelines if he needs more give him what he needs. The guidelines are for the average baby, my LO was always having more than the guidelines on the tin. The HV always told me with you can't overfeed a baby especially at that age just give him what he needs.

I have the opposite problem with my baby, she never drinks as much as she is supposed to according to the charts, lol. She went through a growth spurt about 6 weeks ago and was drinking over 50 oz a day! But she's now back down to only wanting about 6 oz each feeding, and she's 6 months.

You won't overfeed him, I promise. If he gets too much, he'll spit it up, which won't hurt him :flower:

Hun, you need to forget the guidelines on the tin. Every baby is different and will only take as much as they need. If he isn't getting enough per feed he is going to get hungry again quicker! So if he wants 5 or 6oz per feed then that's absolutely fine.

My daughter was on 4oz feeds at 1 week old and 5oz feeds at 3 weeks old.

I would also recommend swapping to regular first milk - your little boy isn't super hungry, he just needs the right amount per feed. Hungry baby milk is designed for those draining 8/9oz bottles every 2hrs in order to delay weaning.

Rule of thumb is when they start draining the bottle, to add an extra oz.

Oh and during growth spurts it's totally normal for them to want bigger bottles, or the same amount more frequently. Fran fed every 3-4hrs but during a spurt would want more after 1.5-2hrs. It only lasted a few days then settled back down to normal.

Don't try to restrict intake based on what it says on the tin love, they are just there as a guide. Feed on demand and give him as much as he wants - the same way you did when he was breastfeeding xx

Deleted as thread was originally in baby club where I replied and moved to FF where I am banned from posting dont want any misunderstandings to arise.

im just so dissapointed i cant breastfeed no more :( i hate him having bottles! i only got 3 bottles, cause i wasnt planning on weaning him to bottle feeding for months and months yet and they are only 4oz bottles but my dads sent me down some more bottles which will be here tomorrow and they are the bigger bottles so i will just put 5/6 oz in them and if he leaves any it doesnt matter as long as hes getting what he needs xx

Its a pretty good substitute hun but i know how u feel i combi fed for 6 weeks and wish i just suck to bf.

4oz isn't that much though is it? My LO is 1 month old today and he is now on 6oz and recently this week has only been going 2 to 2 and a half hours between feeds. I was scared to give my LO more formula cos i thought i would be over feeding him but he was just draining his bottle and still looking around for more straight after. I think they go through growth spurts around this age hun well i hope thats what is happening with my LO lol. I have cow & gate stage 2 for hungrier babies to try on my LO but he has had some and still only went 2 and a half hrs so i think its just a growth spurt.

There is a growth spurt around 3-4 weeks old hun xx

Yeah, what everyone else has already said...feed your baby however much he wants to eat. I BF so don't know how much she eats most of the time, but when my OH gives her a bottle she can sometimes down 6-7oz. easy. We have "overfed" her before, because she was drinking so fast (we learned quickly to make sure she takes breaks so we can burp her!) and it pretty much just consisted of her throwing up whatever milk she didn't need. Messy, but she didn't seem too upset by it.

There is no point beating ur self up about not breastfeeding! Believe me I spent 3 yrs regretting not being able to bf my first, it hurt far too much.

Uve done what uve needed to now so that all that matters.
