5-day Luteal Phase after BCP - Will they shorten?

I came off the BCP in early April and had withdrawal bleeding. My first cycle was 43 days, and I don't know if I ovulated or not. I wised up the second cycle and charted on FF and it appears I ovulated on CD 29. The scary part is...I got my period this morning, which is 6 dpo. A 5-day luteal phase sounds like a pretty bad thing based on the reading I've done today.

Has anyone else experience such short luteal phases after going off the BCP? And more importantly, how long did it take for them to lenghten? I've read about B6, but is there anything else I can do? I have a appointment on Thursday to see if I actually ovulated or not.

Can anyone offer any advice? Good news or bad news is welcome. :winkwink:

Did you do BBT charting to confirm ovulation? Is it possible that you ovulated sooner?

Your body needs time to recover after being fed artificial hormones for however long you were on BC. It takes up to 3 months for your body to detox all the artificial hormones out of your system and up to another 3 to 6 months for your body to re-learn how to make its own natural hormones.

Not every woman takes a year to regulate her cycles, and it's of course possible for you ovulate and thus to get pregnant before a year has passed. Some women get pregnant their first couple months off the pill. Others have lots of problems.

I was on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo and then Yaz for about 7 years total, and my body is still trying to recover. I've had crazy long cycles (77 days), crazy short cycles (10 days), and just had a semi-normalish cycle of 38 days.

Good luck!

Thank you for the information. I feel like there is a seriously lack of education on these points, unfortunately. My doctor advised me to continue the pill until I was ready to TTC because it would make me more likely to get pregnant. I'm kicking myself for not going off sooner.

Kerrbear, I have been doing the BBT charting, and it appears I ovulated...although it's really hard to tell with such a short LP. I got blood drawn today to confirm, so fingers crossed!

Good luck to you both. Thanks for the help!

You're welcome! And good luck to you, too. :)

I am in the same boat - came off of BCP and have had very irregular cycles 63days, 43days and 51+ days..I have been on vitex for the past 6 months and I think in my case it possibly had the reverse effect and screwed up my cycles even more.

Wish i could just get my cycle down to a normal-ish time frame :(
