I just need some advice, and if anyone has gone through the same thing!

My son is 5, and has been soiling his pants for the past 2 years. He doesn't have actual poo accidents, he just has a little in his pants and his bum. Now he is at school he won't tell a teacher when it happens as he is embarrassed, so leaves it and he is coming home smelly and sore a few times a week.

We are under the care of a hospital paediatrician who a year and a half ago diagnosed chronic constipation with the accidents being seepage basically (apologies if tmi!!). He was prescribed movicol and has religiously been taking that ever since.

He isn't constipated anymore. He goes every single day, his poo is the nice soft one on the chart so consultant is happy. But yet he is still soiling. The consultant has no answers and just says preserve with the movicol, but he isn't the one pooing himself on a regular basis. He is happy, and loves school. I am a little concerned that just over a year ago his little brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and so gets more attention at times, but we do try and include them both with everything we do. Other than that he is happy and healthy and I am at a loss.

Could he be trumping and poo is coming out? Just thinking with him still taking the movacol when he isnt actually constipated anymore, could it be causing his stools to be a little loose? I dont know if it would work like that or not? Sorry not much use just my first thought.

My daughter has major toileting issues around poos, and has withheld them since a baby, but if her stools are loose she just poos herself - she is almost five and is autistic, her paediatrician has recommended getting inco pads and placing them between the toilet pan and seat to take away any anxiety around the hole beneath her while on the toilet, and she said to get her to sit on the toilet once a day at the same time with music or candles, i pad etc to make her relax, and the idea is that you 'train' their bowels by allowing them to have a regulated , relaxed opportunity to go. This may be of no use but I thought I'd share.

My DD is five and this happens to her too. She has never been constipated, has no fear of the toilet, but just can't be bothered to go because learning and playing are more fun. So she hold it and then when she farts little bits come out. She is also bad at wiping so if she does go for a poo in school her pants might still have poo on because she didn't wipe properly. I'm trying to encourage her to drink more because if she goes for a wee when she needs a poo she always poos rather than holding it in.
