5wk6 day scan what to expect?

i have my first scan next week at 5 weeks and 6 days and am just wondering what i should be seeing? will i see a heartbeat? will i actually see the baby? any advice would be great! xxx

I had a early scan at 7 weeks due to bleeding/pink loss. They wouldn't let oh in for the scan. They didn't show me anything on the scan screen - they told me that the sonographer wouldn't talk to me or tell me anything. They did the scan sent me back to the EPU - I then had to wait for a midwife to go through the scan report things - they showed me photos from the scan and it said things like 'single sac...' or something like that they went through it said it showed one pregnancy in the womb not fallopian tube (they said that the EPU was there to check for ectopics) and there were words like fetal pole etc... we didn't see /get told of a heart beat.

We we told to come back in 2 weeks for a rescan. Same proceedure - sonographer tells you nothing you have to go back to the epu. This was the one that they said all was o.k (the didn't see something on the first scan that they wanted to see to make sure things were o.k hence the call back, she said sometimes people come back more than once and doesn't mean its bad news to have to go back).

Can honestly say it was the longest 2 weeks EVER. I wish I had known hubby wouldn't be allowed in as I was so nervous and hated being on my own but they must have good reason for it.

Hiya. I had a scan at 5w2d (my dates turned out to be spot on) and all I saw was a gestational sac. Empty. No foetal pole, certainly no heartbeat.

I have seen a couple of photos from google from late in 5w (so 5w6d etc) that have a little bean and it is sometimes possible I think to see a little white blob of yolk sac/foetal pole but don't be disappointed if you don't see it. All they are looking for at this stage is that the pregnancy has implanted, and hence a gestational sac (i.e. what you see in my pic). I was a bit disappointed that we didn't see a 'baby' but my OB was more than happy with what we saw.

They'll probably measure the GS (which is what they're doing in the top right of my pic) and estimate your dates from that, check where it has implanted as well (i.e. high up in the uterus or down near the cervix) and check it's in the uterus in the first place. They might even check (with the US) the state of your cervix too (i.e. mine was long and closed which was a good sign).

I had a scan at 5+4 and it looked exactly like buddabun's - a thickened lining and a gestational sac with nothing visible inside it.

We are now 16 weeks (buddabun I think we are due on the same day!) and have had a couple more scans and everything is normal.

I was really worried after not seeing even a yolk sac on our scan but we had another scan at 7w and there was a little prawn with a heartbeat so I guess what we saw at 5w was 'normal'.

Well, I went in for what I thought would be an 8 week scan on Monday, and I was only measuring 6 weeks...(which is a whole other story), but if I truly was measuring at 6 weeks...then we saw the yolk sac with an itty bitt baby and a really strong heartbeat!
