Hey everyone,

My 6 month old sleeps great usually. He has 3 naps a day usually lasting anywhere from 1-2 hours. His last nap is usually 3-4:30. He then gets cereal at 6, bath at 7:30 and bedtime at 8:30. He was sleeping great, until the past couple weeks he has been waking up at 9:15 every night and screaming bloody murder until someone goes in and picks him up and rocks him back to sleep. Then he sleeps through the night until 7:30.

My quetion is how do I eliminate that 9:15 wake up? I've tried letting him self soothe but he is usually so worked up he won't stop screaming. I've also tried shushing and patting which sometimes works if I can catch it right away.

Thanks.

Jordan will wake an hour or 2 after she goes to sleep screaming if she has to burp. Have you tried that?

Yah that's usually what happens.. I pick him up burp him and bounce/rock him a bit and he falls straight asleep. But every night?

Jordan went through a time when it was every night. I think it was her gut getting used to different foods?

Eta -Megan had the same type of issue a lot until she was off her formula at 12 months.

oh never thought of that.. we just started him on solids.. and i know banana made him a little constipated.. but he was never really fussy with it.

I have just went through this with my daughter of the same age. In my situation it turned out to be seperation anxiety because i was putting her to bed asleep and she was waking up and i wasnt there. I sorted it in 3 nights by letting her self settle and now no more wake ups :-)

We went through this for awhile and I couldn't figure it out. The obvious answer is that they're overtired, but my LO naps well too. I'll be stalking this thread!

I think it depends on how they are when they wake. Both of my girls when they had to burp after falling asleep would wake screaming their head off. As soon as I burp Jordan she calms down and I lay her back down.

She goes down awake, but I agree if kids are going down asleep they will wake looking for you. Megan did that as well as she wasnt going down awake... That was 30-45 minutes after laying her down. After rereading the op... And what time bedtime is I would say it's very possible overtired or issue of being rocked to sleep vs my original idea.

I put LO to bed overtired last night at 715pm and she woke 5 times before 10 pm and needed rocking back to sleep. Not sure what else it could be

So maybe put him to bed earlier? He is never fussy in the evening though.. And never shows signs of being sleepy.

It's worth trying and see if it works and stops the waking? Jordan was having go to bed early after going down to 2 naps as she was having too long of wake time between last nap and bedtime. She needed to be in bed 3 hrs after she woke up. Now at 8 1/2 months she is going 4 hrs from last nap to bedtime.

6 months is also a big time for kids to have issues with falling asleep a certain way ( being rocked, with a pacifier, whatever ) and they wake looking for it. But if he is only waking that once it might be over tiredness.

Clara is a lot younger but she wakes an hour after going to bed every single night as well. I have no idea why she wakes up at that time. She goes down awake but she wants to feed back to very drowsy/asleep when she wakes after an hour. It's not over-tiredness because the only nights she doesn't wake after an hour is if she's up a bit later than usual. Maybe she's undertired, is that possible?? She doesn't need a burp (sometimes she does wake up needing a burp but that's a different sort of cry).

I would love to get rid of that waking especially since she usually wakes up just as I'm finally getting her older brother into bed. So I literally feel like I'm putting children to bed for the whole evening!

My little one started doing this about a month and a half ago, I could pretty much set a clock to it. Now she's waking every hour throughout the night. She just screams and screams til I get in my bed with her and nurse. I'd love to know what's going on, I'm stalking this thread too!

I'm trying the cry it out method tonight - so far not working...

I put him in his crib after I nursed him, he fell asleep.. Woke up an hour later
, went in patted him shushed him, left the room, waited 3 mins, went in, waited 5 mins, went in... Now waiting 10. I put him to bed a,most an hour earlier too so definitely not an overtired thing... I feel like such a horrible mom right now listening to him cry.
