So my DS was six weeks this last Friday and since then, he has been nursing constantly! He literally nurses for an hour straight at a time. Then I'll get maybe an hour where he sleeps. Between 10pm and 5 am he nurses every half hour and won't sleep unless he is in bed with me. Unfortunately I can't get comfortable co sleeping :(

I'm SO tired and bit***. My poor DF. I also have a three year old and I just can't keep up.

He has had what I call a growth spurt before, but he usually nurses for 45 min at 10pm and then sleeps for 5 hours! And I never noticed a change during he day. Just cluster feeding at night.

What is going on, and most importantly, if/when will it stop!?

Edit: thought I'd add that he normally nurses for 15min and then sleeps for a three or four hour stretch. Doc says that is fine and he is just an efficient nurser. He weighed 12lbs( up from 7 lbs and 10 ounces after weight loss following his birth) at 5 weeks 3 days. So I don't feel it is a " not getting enough" issue

I wish I had answers for you but I don't. My son is 3weeks old and has been nursing constantly for an hour then 5-10 minutes break and then constant feeding again.

It's totally normal at six weeks I'm afraid in most cases it's the biggest growth spurt. If you just feed through it though it should pass within a few days. I know it's not easy when you have other kids though xx

:hugs::hugs:

I remember spending most of my life sat in the nursing chair watching tv around 6 weeks. it does get less! but there will be more days like that I had more at around 10 weeks and then 12ish

Completely normal unfortunately. It got better for us after the ten week mark. I feel for you as I also had a demanding toddler, but it does get easier. You're doing a great job x

Omg I've been going through this for over a week now! She won't sleep and is nursing non stop its definitely way worse than the 3 week growth spurt holy geeeez I'm so tired and stressed out and so over this growth spurt I'm just praying it ends soon!

i dont think there is a "normal" at that age my kids all went from one growth spurt to the next with new development phases in the middle which messed up their patterns even more lol,
Have you got a sling or wrap you can feed and be up and about at the same time with? i remember with my youngest id be feeding till walking out the door to take ds1 to nursery, feeding when i got back nearly non-stop till it was time to go get ds1 and feeding as soon as i got home again, ds3 would nap on my chest during the walks to and from nursery, he would go in his basket for 45 -90 min in the afternoon and then be feeding again for ages id have to put him in the sling again to be able to cook dinner and as soon as ds1 and ds2 were in bed for the night it was cluster feeding till we put ds3 to bed at 11ish and he would be feeding 2-3 times a night lol, now he wont sit still long enough to finish a meal and fights the highchair lol how times do change

I feel for you. I was spending 8 to 10hrs a day feeding for much of the first 8 weeks. Glad to say it has eased off now. It must be really hard with other kids!

Sorry ladies, I've been exhausted, haven't had much time to jump on here. I can't find a sling to nurse him in that does make him all hunched up and uncomfortable.

I did manage to get him to sleep in his swing for an hour last night! Hoping this means i ends soon :D

I hope it ends for you pretty quickly! Its been a week and a half for me and she finally took a day time nap so I'm hoping and praying this means that my good baby will be back by morning! 6 week growth spurt is horrible I second guessed myself a thousand times and sat staring at my emergency formula stash crying because I felt like giving up!

I remember the 6 week growth spurt! LO nursed for hours at a tine, I xouldn't get out of the hoise. this lasted a couple of days to a week, & from then in LO wanted feeding every 2 hrs until about 3 monhs when she strtched feeds to every 2.5hrs. we still get the odd day or two when LO takes over an hour on feeds & wants feeding more frequently.
