Since my c-section I have found that I have backache quite a lot... is this something that might be attributed to my c-section? I know that carrying baby around could cause it of course, but the pain is only in one area of my back like a sort of stabbing almost. Is this normal? Something to get checked out?

Also, today and yesterday, my scar has started to feel a lot more tender than it has before (even during the first week). It's not painful as such, just feels tender to the touch and sort of like I'm stretching it sometimes when I move funny. Is this normal?

I'm not sure whether to book an appointment with my doctor a little earlier than they wanted me to for my checkup (they don't want to see me until 8 weeks pp) or whether to just leave it and wait to see?

Any advice please?

I had a backache in the weeks following my section, but I'm only 23 days PP so not quite at 6 weeks like you. It was worse when I walked too much. I was told that it was from the pressure from moving everything around to get lily out plus I had back labor so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the back pain I had. For peace of mind it wouldn't hurt being checked by your doctor or at least calling them to see what they say.

I find that the area around and above my incision feels kinda numb and when my clothing rubs against it, its tender but its on the skin only, not inside. Is yours like this or is it internal? It's comparable to skin chaffing in my case. If the feelings you are having are bearable then it could wait until your 8 weeks PP visit but if you feel something isn't right then you could just make an appt earlier? Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I had back labour too (before an EMCS) I do wonder if that's contributing to it. I am finding that paracetemol is keeping the worst of it at bay so I'll persevere until I see the GP I think. But will mention it then.

As for the scar - yes, mine feels just like that, it's obviously nerve damage 'cos it still feels quite weird to touch - like it's semi-numbed, a bit like a limb feels when it's gone dead before pins and needles! But what I'm talking about is tenderness like I'm pulling the scar again like it was in the first week. It's odd. Though has settled down a bit since I posted this thread.

Again, I'll mention to the GP at 8 weeks pp, but just looking for other's experiences really!

Thanks for your reply.

I got a bit of backache afterwards, and still sometimes do, especially first thing in the morning if I've been lying in one position for ages. I wonder if it could be anything to do with the spinal as well. It's over 2 years since I had my c-section so I can't remember just how bad it was in the weeks after but I do remember having some backache. The scar area was numb for a long time, in fact it's still a little bit numb, and still tender if LO stands or kneels on it!

xx

Is the tightness near your incision or is it more inside? Could it be your ligaments still healing?

It does seem to be inside I think, so yes, it's possibly ligaments re-tying themselves!!

katy - hmm, that doesn't bode well then! Not looking forward to the back pain lasting 2 years! The numbness in the scar I can deal with (though I'm surprised that hasn't got completely better for you yet) but the backache is something else. I'm convinced it's got something to do with the spinal..

the backache is probably due to spinal, the other pains are completely normal youre still mending inside, takes upto 6 months to heal and upto a year to heal fully! (im still healing get lots of odd pains if i do too much etc)

I had extreme back pain. It went away after, gosh, two months? I never did go see a doctor. My sister also had this and I have to say that we thought it was "normal".

Thankfully, my back pain has eased a little in the past week. Which is a relief considering they can't see me at doctor's for the pp checkup and LO's jabs until 19th June! (LO will be 9 weeks)
