hi ladies, please help me lol i had a growth scan today as was found to be measuring big at mw appointment yest.
Well the baby is measuring on the 97th centile for tummy head and femur and currently weighing 7lb 7.
I am having the gtt done on wednesday then seeing consultant friday.
Will i be induced regardless of gtt result or...... argh im in a pickle and very confused and upset.

I dont think your be induced..plenty of woman have large babies. Not sure what happens if you have GD tho. I know scans can be off mark tho so try not to worry

wowsers, hopefully you get some answers! Just remember that those growth scans are not always completely accurate...bubba might not really be that big!!

Growth scans are not really very accurate, and i agree, nothing wrong with a big baby :haha: I've had two!

I just had the same thing, my son was measuring 8lb 4oz at 37 weeks.
I gave birth to him on Xmas day bang on 40 weeks (induced) and he weighed 9lb 8oz.
I had a natural birth with only a tiny tear and no stitches.
I worried my whole pregnancy about his size, towards the end it was really affecting me badly but it was not bad at all.

Just remember that the further along you get, the more the u/s estimates are going to be off. My tech says it can be off by almost 10oz!!

My experience (through my friend's and SIL's u/s weights and birth weights) has been that the baby almost always weighs less than what the u/s says!!

The mw is surprised at the size of my baby after palpating as i was only 6 and a half stone pre pg. I had a scan at 38 weeks and baby weighed 7lb 7oz. She told told me today that scans can be out by 20%, and she said not to eat any sweet things.

this is my 6th baby and theyve got progressively larger lol.i had a 9lb 2 baby so its not really the size that worries me its just ive got a shunt in my brain as the pressure of the fluid was too high meaning i cant push for long :s as for the gd ive had no symptoms and only the past two weeks have i been measuring big.hmmm very strange lol.

Try not to worry too much. I was told at 38 weeks that DD would weigh about 7lb5oz when she would be born at 39 weeks and in the end she was 9lbs 9oz so they can be very very wrong!! Another friend was told their baby would be 9lbs or so and he was about 7lbs!! I have no faith in these measurements to be honest!!

One way or another you will be fine and the hospital will look after you.

With my first i was told he would be 9 pound give or take a pound... this was at my 40 week scan... he was 9lb 8.... With this baby who is measuring to have a SLIGHTLY larger belly at my 3 scans,, just by the midwife feeling my tummy she has said im looking at a high end 8 pounder possibly 9 lol... I have asked several times to be induced early but they just keep saying nothing wrong with birthing big babies naturally lol xx

Aw, I understand your worry, I had a scan two days ago and baby measured 6lbs 8oz at 34+3. That made me very nervous! x

i had a growth scan at 34 weeks and baby was measuring 7lbs 2 oz! told me he'd be about 9 n half or 10lbs by due date. really hoping i don't go over as my dd had shoulder dystocia. xo

Our LO was 7 lbs exactly at 36 weeks and they have now let me go one week over, and will let me go one more week. They are expecting a large baby, but I have not been pressured into induction.

More than likely you won't be induced just because you have a large baby. My son was measuring 7lbs 12oz at 36 week growth scan. The only reason why we've discussed induction is because of my health problems through this pregnancy and not even sure my pelvic bone can deliver a baby. xx I would just wait it out to be honest, also as others mentioned, estimate can be a lb or so off either way.

With gd the tummy and shoulders could be bigger but it shouldn't affect the head - therefore more likely you are just having a big baby.

when i was pregnant with my son, he measured 7lb11oz at my 35 week scan. I was induced at 40 weeks, but only because of the complications I had with the birth of my daughter. My son ended up weighing 9lb7oz. I only had to push for 20 min. I do not think you will be induced just because the baby is measuring big unless your doc thinks it is necessary. GL :)

This is my 4th baby .. With my first I was told to expect a big baby 8lbs+ .. He was only 7lb 8 & to me was tiny !!

2nd baby I was sent to consultants at around 36 weeks as their estimated weight showed that she was very tiny and they were worried about her growth .. I delivered at 38 weeks a very healthy 7lb 13oz baby girl ..

With my 3rd I cant remember having an estimated weight, and im now 35 weeks and my MW has not mentioned anything about having an estimated weight either which im happy about as with my first two pregnancy's they had me worried sick for nothing :)

Try not to worry and as has been said before, nothing at all wrong with big baby's ive actually heard they are a lot easier to give birth to :flower: ... Either way im sure your little bundle of joy will be just perfect xxx
