I feel like that last 1/4 of a baby's first year is a huge time of transition. It's a time when a baby feels notably different from the first portion of the year and you begin to get glimpses into what your baby will be like as a toddler. It's a huge time of transition. The baby is no longer a little baby but not quite yet a toddler. Many are even starting to walk or may even say a word or two. It's just amazing and exciting. Leo doesn't do it consistently, but I've seen him sign "more" and "potty" in context, so I know he's working hard at learning language. He also loves to eat food and won't let anyone eat without sharing with him, he's working to begin cruising, and he's learning to use his voice to communicate. In a few short months he's going to morph from baby into little toddler and it's going to be amazing. I'm really looking forward to it.

Oh yes! Mine is 12 months, so at the other end of the final months of babyhood! She has grown and changed so much since turning 8 months. She is definitely a true toddler now.
She has over 20 words (i never believed anyone who said their 12 month old had lots of words before, but now I do) and knows 10 animal sounds. She can point to a few body parts (belly, head, nose, ears, toes)
She has very obvious interests now. She loves books, and music and animals.
Her personality really shows. Fiery, funny, temperamental, cheeky all spring to mind.

She is a challenge but it is so lovely watching her learn new things every day.

That's basically 30 words. Violet had 2 words at a year. Or was it 3? Somewhere in that range. Your littlest will probably be speaking in sentences by a year and a half if not sooner. That's incredible. I wonder what Leo's first word will be. Violet's was kitty cat. My husband really pushed for her to say that one. Daddy, up, and that were also early words for her.

Wait a second, are you having a 3rd, Minties? Congratulations!

I'm so excited for this period! It's going to be amazing x

I concur! Hunter turned nine months yesterday and he's soaking in so much. On one hand, I miss the newborn stage and the cuddles. On the other, I'm so excited for him to be learning and interacting with the world and showing his personality. It's amazing. The only thing I'm having a hard time with is the accidents. He's cruising on furniture and has has quite a few falls already.

Leo isn't cruising yet, but he's sure trying. He falls a good bit from that and being pushed over. They're built to survive it though!
