I went in for a scan yesterday, they did both abdominal and vaginal. Please coud some of you ladies hep me interpret what that means exacty? Am I about to miscarry?? I have no bleeding, no cramps, morning sickness from help, positive pregnancy tests... I am so scared...
Here's the report:
'Gestational sac: present. Gestationa sac size: 20mm x 18mm x 21mm. Yolk sac: present. Yolk sac size: 7.0mmx7.0mmx7.0mm. Embryo absent. (...)
Right ovary: A thick-walled cyst is seen on the right ovary measuring 20x18x20mm ? corpus luteal cyst but other pathology cannot be excluded. (...)
The gestational sac is irregular and situated 27mm from the fundal end of the endomentrial cavity. A hypoechoic area us seen to the right of the sac measuring 9x6x3mm. Within the sac there is a rather large yolk sac with another cystic rounded area adjacent to the yolk sac, this measures 5x4x5mm.'

As the summary of US is inconclusive they told me to get back for another scan on January 4. Anyone with a similar experience? Please help ladies....

I don't understand what you have written but I can tell you at the first scan of my first pregnancy I was supposed to be 6 weeks and instead I was 4 and everything turned out fine. They didn't see anything other than an empty sac though. Hugs.

Mine to hun and my son is 18 months old, however idk about thw cyst.

When did you get your positive test? A yolk sac with no embryo implies either you are closer to 5.5 weeks or your pregnancy is not developing normally. I had a blighted ovum in Aug of 2011, but never saw a yolk sac. However, it could be that the tech just missed the embryo... I would just wait for your next ultrasound.

Personally I would phone up, or visit if you're near, or even go to a GP and ask them to interpret these results, because people on here are unlikely to be able to understand the terminology relating to the cyst etc, and offering their own experiences might be unhelpful (not that i'm insinuating it's unsupportive!! just that your situation might be very different without realising it) anyway what i'm trying to say a bit rubbishly is I think you should speak to a healthcare professional about these results so you get a clear picture, they shouldn't have let you leave without fully explaining it and making sure you understood, too, so not very impressed with whoever just sent you away with that piece of paper!

I agree with pp they should have explained it to you could your dates be wrong?

I had a scan at 5-6 weeks to check I wasn't having an ectopic pregnancy & a cyst was spotted on my right ovary but I was told it was nothing to worry about so I wouldn't worry unless you're told otherwise.

Are you 100% sure on your dates? Hope everything goes ok on Friday xxx

Generally speaking the yolk sac should start to shrink as the baby grows. They should have explained this to you, rather than leaving you with questions, but in all honesty they may not have any idea what's going on for sure until your next u/s. Your dates could be off, etc. Hope everything goes well at your next u/s.

forgot to add i had a scan at 5 weeks and only saw sac - this was to rule out eptopic pregnancy. had a scan at 6 weeks and saw hb but also cyst in one ovary which the sono and consultant said it probably means that that was ovary that baby came from.

scan at 9 weeks showed cyst had shrunk in size and not mention of cyst at 12 week scan :)

I went for an ultrasound today after getting about 7 positive hpt's and I should be around 4 weeks. All they could see was the sac they said it could be the sac or a cyst it was too early to tell. She did mention that if I got so many positive tests that the "baby" is just too small to see yet. I wish you all the best, I have a doc appointment tomorrow so I'm sure she will be able to tell me more. The us lady said blood tests this early are better than ultrasounds

wondering how the scan went??? Hope it was great and you got to see your wee bubs

You can always get a quantitative HCG test to measure your hormone levels. Talk to your doctors about it. Get the first test, then a second test in 2-3 days. if it doubles, then your pregnancy is growing fine and you probably have your dates wrong.

But the most accurate indication is to just wait one week and get scanned again. If there are no developments, then you will miscarry. if you see any growth, then it confirms your dates were wrong and you'll be fine.
