Now i know all babies are dif as they are individuals, but generally speaking, what age are they likely/expected to start to sleeep through the night? Amelia is 7 weeks tomorrow and isn't going through - she will feed about 10/11pm, sleep till around 3, feed and then sleep till 6 - 7am when she wakes for another feed. Does this sound about right for her age or should she be going longer?

Also, Amelia is not able to soothe herself to sleep yet - is that normal? Thing is, she has reflux so i need to hold her upright for about 30 mins after a feed - she generally falls asleep in this time so isn't really getting much chance to self soothe.....

For those who have little ones that do put themselves to sleep.....how did you teach/encourage them to do it? On the times i have attempted it with Amelai it has been a disaster - is she just too young.....i don't know :dohh:

Niamh started sleeping through at 5 weeks, but she still has off nights about once a week. Last night she was up every hour from 2am :dohh:

It's totally normal for them not to be able to soothe themselves to sleep yet either. Niamh still can't. At their age, they need comfort from you - they don't cry for attention.

how lovely that niamh can sleep through already - clever girl!

For sleeping through, it really depends on the baby. Some start sleeping though very quickly, others are still waking up several times a night at a year or more. Kathryn has not slept through until last night, she always wakes up for food (she's really tall and is growing so much) I think she only wakes because her body needs the extra food. We fed her in her crib last night while she was 1/2 asleep and she slept through! Hope it wasn't a fluke though, we'll see tonight!

Colton just started sleeping through about .. two weeks ago! :D

He did start sleeping through when he was four months old, and it stopped at 6 months.. until just recently he has woke up atleast 1-2 times a night.

Tyler was doing that at 7 weeks old too,its only been the last two weeks he started sleeping through 10pm - 7am xx

Jacob still doesn't sleep through your lucky she only wakes once :D jacob is up and down 3-6x a night. I asked my HV and she said some babies just wont sleep through until there 1-2ish! Jacob learnt to self settle about 16 weeks old he has really bad reflux so i feed him his bottle wait 30mins-1hr for it to settle then pop him down and off he goes no fuss or anything. When he wakes in the night i feed him give him his dummy and put him down, sometime in the night he wont self settle but were working on that. :)

She sounds perfectly normal to me hunni XxX

summer stopped waking up in the night for milk at about 10 weeks old but she is nearly 11 months old now and still wakes up in the night, for her dummy or something. she did go through a stage where she would just sleep through but that stopped and she started waking again.

Courtney has slept through since about 6 weeks old... but she goes to bed later than I would like and some nights she is restless and has to come in my bed!! She hasnt been fed in the night though since 6 weeks old!! :)

Amelie hasn't slept through yet. My mum has told me I didn't sleep through until 24 weeks old :| Think every kid really is different.
