I apologize if this is in the wrong place

Kay, so after high school I took a year off then I went back and started my college life. I took Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist. I have been graduated a year now, and I work in a pet supplies store. I feel like it is a waste of my schooling being here. But now I am also afraid that everything I learned, has escaped my head :( It's just in the industry where I live, you are either waiting for someone to go on mat leave, or retire in order to get a placement. I just don't know what to do anymore.

It also doesn't help that where I work now, rarely get people in as well, so I am almost always alone here. Should I look for a job in a different area? Like maybe an office job? I do have reception. I just feel like I wasted my money not doing what I went in for. Now also it is hard because I would rather be in animal grooming, but I already have a hefty student loan to pay back.

I can understand feeling like school was a waste- but, just remind yourself that you were motivated enough to go to school. Lots of employers like that fact that someone even went- whether it directly ties to what you are applying for or not. Experience can be just as useful as a degree (obviously depending on the job). I have no degree- I wish I did! But I got into working and couldn't afford to go and here I am 20yrs later still feeling like that kid that doesn't know what she wants to do when she "grows" up. LOL. I have a great job- dont' get me wrong... but I fell into my career- it wasn't exactly my dream as a kid. But it's a good job- good pay- people etc... so I kinda feel stuck. So because I don't have a degree and I have all this experience (in one field) I'm not sure what to do either!

Just know your not alone... loads of people go to school for one thing and end up in another field they never thought about! All you can do now, is what makes the most sense... if you can find a job in what you want in another town, and still make the commute work- then try for that? Maybe if you get experience you'll find you enjoy what your doing? Eventually- you can always go back to school if not. I'm looking into that myself- and I'm gonna be 40 in Dec!!! So it's never too late :) I just gotta figure out what I want to do now.

Best of luck hun- sorry no real advise... I"m sure you'll figure it out though.

Thanks for the input :), me and my OH plan on moving to another province so maybe I will have more luck there!!

I can totally understand that! I love being a mom, but sometimes I miss working too and am afraid that I'll forget things I learned in school for communications. I think you'll be fine as you search online for something new :). Think about all of the skills you already have (it'll probably surprise you in the best way...even social media counts as a skill these days) and apply those skills!!
