Hi, my due date was the 18th Feb 2013 but I had, had a previous c-section due to a prolasped cord after an induction at 38 weeks with my Son in Oct 2011 because of GD. This time they let me go on with the pregnancy because I so badly wanted a vbac as I had already had 3 normally including a breech birth.

My waters broke Feb 14th at 8pm and I really thought I'd have my baby that night or the early hours of the morning of the 15th because of the previous babies. We went in and my contractions were at every 10 mins but fizzled out in the the early hours of the 15th. They took me up to the ward but brought me back down to the labour suite at 10am that morning to start me off. After long delays they finally started me off on Sintocin and trying to break the waters over the babys head (which had already drained) at 2pm. By 7pm I was having regular contractions at every 3-5 mins and was the same dilated at 2cm and thick cervix still. they said my next examination would be at 11pm. At 11pm the contractions were on top of each other and no progression had been made, I was still the same dilated and thickness in cervix. At 1.45am a consultant came in to check me as my waters had broken over 24 hrs before to check me, I still hadn't progressed anymore and was suffering severe pain in the righthand side of my previous scar tissue. Everytime he touched it, it would make me scream out in pain and the contractions were so fast on top of one another with the Sintocin that I wasn't getting a break from them. He said enough was enough and that he thought I maybe rupturing from the other c-section and that I needed another EMCS now. They took me down and gave me a spinal which didn't work first time and was making me jump and cry and had relocate it. It worked second time and the section went ahead. Alyssa-Rose Marie was born at 2.15am and weighed 7lbs 14oz with lots of black hair and screaming bless her. She had the umbilicle cord wrapped round her neck several times which prevented her coming down naturally and could not of been born vaginally because of it and I had ruptured internally on my right hand side unfortunately! They sewed and stapled me back together and took me up to the ward after I had spent a couple of hours in recovery.

Later that day (12hrs exactly) I started feeling very cold and shaking uncontrollably. They took my temp which was sky high and my blood pressure which was really down low. My bloods were taken and they were an absolute mess and down low on everything, platelets, iron count EVERYTHING. They took me back down to labour suite so I had the consultants and doctors I needed and called my husband to come back to the hospital as I was in critical condition due to the rupture that had occured and infection had set in. After a few hours they were going to put me in intensive care due to low blood pressure! I think thats what brought it back up a bit because they said I would have to have a canula in my neck! Well after many canulas in my arms and hands which had shut down due to dehydration I dreaded the thought of that lol and it raised a little. After x-rays and a CT scan they found that the infection had passed into my chest, lungs and womb. They put me on very strong anti-biotics that had bad side effects but did the job and told me I was lucky to be alive? I never once felt at deaths door though.

One week later and I was home with my beautiful daughter and have recovered quite well after everything. She was worth every second of everything we went through and we are so happy.

Hope I haven't scared to many of you and happy labour dust to all of you waiting xxxx

wow what an experience glad all is well now, congrats on your LO

Wow, what a birth! That's why I'm not going in with a birth plan. That way I don't get disappointed with it not going to plan. Really, anything can happen, and you just have to go with it. So long as you and your baby come out fine at the end, that is all that matters. Congratulations on your little girl. I'm glad everything worked out in the end. Xx

I've never had a birth plan either, I was the perfect candidate for a VBAC but never complained when they said c-setion. I just wanted a healthy baby at the end which I got. It was just unlucky that I got an infection! Its so not common for this to happen doesn't happen often. I was told by a few doctors not to have anymore babies but my consultant said I can but I would need another c-section due to the rupture xxx

wow thats a amazing story :hugs: congrats on ur LO :)

Oh gosh how scary. Why did they induce you for a vbac? I've heard and read from many sources that increases the rate of rupture. So glad everything ended up ok and congratulations on your baby!

I have no idea why they decided to give me the sitocin at all? I was told first off that drugs were not going to be used? I really do wish I had gone for an elective c-section now so I could have more children. Only my own consultant has said I could have another but the rest have said no don't? We would really want one more but what do you believe after so many opinions? xxx
