Hi all,

I am a few days early for 3rd trimester:blush:.......but thought this might be more likely to have happened to someone else in 3rd tri as that is when rapid growth occurs.

I have had sore stretching pains (assume this is muscles) around my belly button and just above for a few weeks. It isn't very painful, but it is noticeable.

Then...about a week ago I started feeling really tender in one spot, roughly 2 inches above my belly button (just off to the right of centre). I noticed that it 'hurt' when I was rubbing moisturiser cream in at night over that area (light touch).

Also, I asked my mum to try to feel the baby kicks and she firmly placed her hand on the spot a little above my belly button (coincidence), and I was yelling with pain - brought tears to my eyes  It also hurts when my husband just rests his hand on this part of my tummy.

When I turn in bed at night, I feel like it is tearing/ripping (also a bit 'burning' type pain).

I went to the antenatal clinic just to ask a midwife and she said it is abdominal separation - with a possible hernia (as there is one tender spot - pain is focalised). I was given some support dressings (like a big tube-sock you wear on your tummy) and referred to a physio in 2 weeks time.

Has anyone had any similar pains (ripping/burning/tender in one spot?) - if so, what was it called and what did you do to treat it?

Google is NOT my friend, I typed 'ripping' and 'burning' and got lots of scary things!!

Thanks in advance, worrying myself that it is something awful - first pregnancy so not sure when something is normal or abnormal. Seeing a GP in 2 weeks as well (monthly check-up).

I had this too. Felt just like a bad bruise. Eventually my body caught up with it, it took a week or two. I was told I didn't have any abdominal wall weaknesses. I was afraid of a hernia too, but I didn't develop one, they didn't even give me anything to help it lol. So hopefully thats what yours is. I was doing heavy lifting at the time too, so make sure you don't lift anything over 15 lbs or so.

Exactly - feels like a bruise from inside. It's only been a few days but haven't noticed much benefit from the support dressing. Baby appears to be kicking in and around the exact spot over and over again this evening! ha ha very funny.

Good news that you didn't have a hernia - I don't see anything sticking out so hoping it is just a growth spurt and it calms down.

Yeah i had this a few weeks ago,all around my belly button felt really bruised and it really hurt if i caught it on anything and also to touch.
I asked my midwife and she just said it sounds like seperation and will go off and it did after about a week.Hope that helps a little :) xx
