Hi ladies just wondered if any of u r going through this....i just got my results back from my 21 day blood tests and ive got abnormal progesterone results...im just waiting for my doctor to call me today but was wondering if any of u have had this problem...so fed up

Hi Trolley,
I've had some experience with this -- my FS was worried that progesterone was low, called luteal phase defect. Without enough progesterone, the lining of the uterus cannot build up properly and sustain a pregnancy. The right amount of progesterone can also indicate ovulation has occurred. In case of luteal phase defect, they can usually treat it well with progesterone tablets (taken vaginally) or progesterone cream (rubbed on your skin).

Do you know what your numbers were? Incidentally, you and I have both been ttc since Oct 2011. Baby dust to us both! :)

My progesterone level was very low.So low that my doc thinks that i dont ov on my own :(.What is your result?

My last cycle my progesterone was in the upper 20s about 3 dpo. It slowly went down to 11 by 14 dpo. I am pretty sure I ovulated this time, and I think it was due to herbs and acupuncture. I also added progesterone cream to help keep the numbers up after O. Seems to have worked!

I had very low progesterone, high fsh and estrogen (basically estrogen dominance which is super bad...google it!)
I'm on progesterone cream day 21/22-28, tablets aren't absorbed very well and suppositories are just messy. I have a great little compounding pharmacy in the area that does up a prescription cream and it helps with PMS symptoms too. No more cramps and the sore back is really not nearly as bad.

The problem with the pill is that much of the progesterone is lost through the liver so you're really left with no more than 10% or so of the original pill dose. So if you want to have an effective dose of 20mg per day you will have to take a dosage of around 200 to 400mg and that's a lot of progesterone to send through your liver. Your liver will eventually get overloaded trying to process that much progesterone on a day to day basis.

You need to support your luteal phase. There are a number of ways you can naturally support progesterone in your body. Vitex helps the estrogen/progesterone balance and here's a link where they've done studies to measure which vitamins support progesterone: https://sites.google.com/site/miscarriageresearch/hormones-and-miscarriage/progesterone-research

My LP is around 12/13 days so i guess it is fine.I am planning to start with progesterone cream next cycle.Just wanted to ask you that does low progesterone automatically mean high estrogen?Even i think i might have estrogen dominance.Did your progesterone level improved after using the cream.MY level was very low just 2.4.How much was your level?

I have read that progesterone cream helps a lot.Planning to use next cycle after ovulation.Did you check your progesterone level this cycle.Did it improve after using the cream? My level was very low last time i checked only 2.4 (i guess USA and Australia measuring units are diff). My doc told me it should be at least 13 for a good ov and 2.4 meant i did not ov :nope:

Mine was under 10 all three times they measured in, I wasn't ovulating. You won't lift your progesterone levels through the cream, it's indicative that you aren't ovulating. After you release an egg your progesterone levels go up, if you're an-ovular, you won't see progesterone increase much even if you use cream.

I don't know if it's a given that when you have low progesterone you have high estrogen but quite often they go hand in hand. I thought I was borderline PCOS and that's what I thought was causing me to not ovulate. I changed my diet (looking at insulin resistance-cut out carbs and sugar) took supplements and use progesterone cream and now I'm ovulating every month. The progesterone cream isn't going to help you ovulate, it'll help you build your lining in luteal phase supporting implantation (incase you do ovulate) and lessen pms symptoms, it helps your body relax, helps prevent breast cancer, progesterone is important. Either way, all the info your doc can give you on hormone levels is really good information: testosterone, fsh, estrogen, amh levels. I've found my doctors pretty much shrug and tell me I can't do much but have IVF, I wasn't pleased or convinced about that. There's a heap of information about lifestyle changes you can do that will help you start ovulating & get your mojo back :winkwink:

IVF oh Gosh :( I cant afford that at present. What supplements did you take? When you tested progesterone and it showed that u did not ov did you chart those cycle? I am sorry i am asking so many q's i am really stressed at present :(
