Absent AF and Blood Tests with PCOS

Hi All,

Dont know if anyone can help, i have PCOS, I came off the BCP last September, had my withdrawal bleed. but have had nothing since, i have done several HPTs and they have all been :BFN: . I finally plucked up the courage to go talk to my GP about it, and he has done a series of blood tests, looking at Progesterone levels and all.

I have noticed lately that i have had problems with my blood sugar levels, do you think it would be an idea to ask regarding Metformin?

hey hun - welcome to my world - I came off the bcp last April and apart from a few instances of spotting, no AF, no ovulation. I went on metformin also but I don't have blood sugar issues. It did trigger one ovulation for me but since my insulin resistance was never an issue it wasn't for me. However the nurse that did my trans vag US also has PCOS and said she got pregnant after 3 months of metformin so I reckon it's well worth a go in your case!

Blood test come back normal, apart from the slightly elevated testosterone, which is at 1.9, the normal range is 1.2 - 1.6. Doc didnt explain how to lower it tho, just said go get on with it. I had a quick peek ata few websites and all i can see is that exercise and a low GI diet will help lower it x Can anyone help more with this one?

get PCOS for Dummies - about £8 from Amazon. It is my bible and has loads of info on low GI and improving conception chances with PCOS xx

ineedaseed, no he didnt.. He wont do anything till we have been trying for a year, even tho there is obviously something not right x Im really annoyed x

MrsBarrowman...i've also had absent periods since stopping the pill in October. My doctors have been really pro-active about it though. They took blood which all came back normal and tomorrow I am having a scan to check for PCOS. My doctor said as soon as he gets the results from the scan he can give me something to kick start my body again.

It must be frustrating to not get any help from your doctor, have you looked into acupunture or homeopathy?

yazzy, me and a colleague was talking bout Acupuncture today, not thought of actually doing it tho, and money is tight too x

you could look into soy isoflavins? a lot of women on here swear by it and i don't think it's very expensive. It works like clomid i think. Worth a bit of research if nothing else!

well after 9 months of not having an AF and more blood tests that came back normal, I went to see a lady Doc and asked her bout Metformin, she said seeing as weve been trying for 10mths, she will put me on the Met, but only after she has had a response from FS. Got letter in post on Wednesday to arrange a FS appt, will try again on Monday to make it, in the meantime i have to wait for FS to get hold of GP. Fx its very soon.



Got my appt with FS, not till 14/09. Does anyone else find FS secretaries very rude??
