Hey Ladies,
Just wondered if anyone else has swallowed toothpaste during pregnancy?

I was pretty emotional last night and couldn't stop crying. Hubs encouraged me to come to bed as I often become emotional when I'm over tired. I begin to brush my teeth (unable to stop crying) and then have to swallow as mucous was building up in the back of my throat (atleast, when I swallowed it wasn't a full mouth swallow, but only towards the back, if that makes any sense). This happened twice. I'm pretty worried that I've swallowed the foamy toothpaste. I'd drank some water 5 minutes before brushing my teeth, so hoping that maybe diluted the toothpaste a little too.

Could this have caused any harm?

You never know =(
Just to be safe I'd go see my doctor.

Im sure its fine :flower:
I freaked out yesterday because I was trying to get the foil off my yazoo milkshake, got very frustrated when I couldnt so I tried to open the tab bit with my teeth when only the tab ripped off I gasped and the foil tab went down my throat and I swallowed it :dohh:

Should be fine :) If it could cause harm they would recommended we didn't use toothpaste as people must swallow it all of the time.

If a little bit of toothpaste is all you swallow during your pregnancy you will be fine :) Don't worry!

I really wouldn't worry about a little bit of toothpaste hun! What are you worried about? xx

Seriously? Would you really go to the doctor over swallowing a little toothpaste?

I'd not even think anything of it!

Lol, I wouldn't either.... if swallowing toothpaste is all you have to worry about in this pregnancy you are one lucky lady!! I am sure if you ate a tube of it it wouldn't do you any good, but cant see it would cause you or the baby any harm.

If you worry like this it will be a very long 9 months hun x

you have to swallow alot of toothpaste, with no watering down by water to be affected by fluoride poisoning, the recommendation for swallowing toothpaste is to drink milk of water, unless you consume alot of are very young or very old and swallow a considerable amount xx

I wouldn't even think on it....... it is just toothpaste.

Thanks for the posts :) I know it probably sounded stupid, but I'm currently suffering with pretty bad OCD (an anxiety disorder) which has resulted in me being overcautious. I was concerned about the fluoride

Oh bless you, always more sense now. You'll be fine really, there's a other thread now with someone who ate a muffin that fell on the floor, so you're not alone x

I'm so happy and excited with the pregnancy but feel as though the anxiety is putting a downer on everything. I had OCD as a child/teen and eventually overcame it. I've had no issues for years but apparently pregnancy can (re)trigger it in some ladies. Hoping to work through it and feel more relaxed with time :flower:

Oh my god I genuinely just snorted milk out of my nose at that! Oh dear god!

I know everything can cause anxiety, and I know it's hard with OCD to know where the normal anxiety ends and the ridiculous begins, but honestly hun if you worry over toothpaste, it will go so slowly for you! I spent the first few weeks really worried that something was going to go wrong, that my puppy walking over my stomach was going to make me miscarry (bearing in mind that she's a cross between a chihuahua and a yorkshire terrier, not exactly a rottweiler lol), anything I could worry about, I did, and it went so slowly! Yet after my scans, it's gone so quickly, it doesn't seem a week ago since I had my 12 week scan! Just try and relax and enjoy it! Most day to day things will be completely fine. There are foods you should steer clear of etc, as I'm sure you know, but most things that could be dangerous will say on the packaging, not suitable for pregnant women.

Congratulations, and enjoy the pregnancy! And speak to your doctor if your OCD becomes difficult to handle, don't let it get to an unbearable stage before seeking help!
