My dh and I are looking in to starting acupuncture but was wondering if anyone else had tried it already?

My dh has low sperm motility, has anyones dh tried acupuncture and did it improve the sperm at all?
I have PCOS and willing to give anything ago

We have been quoted that for both of us to have a weekly session will cost about 240 euros per month, what do you think?

I have heard that it can also be quite good while undergoing IVF so thought it wouldnt help to start slightly earlier then that!

Oh, if anyone has had it done does it hurt?

Thank you

Hi

I've had it to regulate my cycle and I will also be having it around icsi time. I have not really heard much about men using it. I pay £30 per hour, which works about the same as you've been quoted. I would make sure you go to one who specialises in fertility. I used to only have it before and after ov, not sure it you'd need it every week. I doesn't hurt at all, it can be a weird feeling but certainly not painful.

Good luck!!

Kath xx

Thank you. The lady I will hopefully be going to is a trained nurse and midwife and has a great interest in the fertility side of it, but being here (on a military base in germany), she really just takes the patients she gets and therefore not many TTC! She said about doing it every week to try and regulate my cycles (but they are about every 35 days without treatment already,) and then go to every 2 weeks, to try and get pregnant. Because dh sperm is really low motility (30% motile reducing to 10% after 180 minutes) I was wondering if he would benefit from it as well.

Fertility Acupuncture

Documented in Chinese texts, acupuncture has been used as a fertility treatment as early as 11AD. It can help with a range of conditions including Polycystic Ovaries (PCOS), endometriosis, hormonal problems and more.

Acupuncture works well as a stand-alone fertility treatment, however, it has also been proven to be very successful when used alongside IVF treatments:

A German study in 2002 showed that of 80 women who underwent IVF and received acupuncture, 34 women got pregnant. Of 80 women who had IVF without acupuncture only 21 fell pregnant.

An American study more recently found that out of 114 women who had IVF and acupuncture 51% got pregnant compared to only 36% without acupuncture.

Acupuncture has also been proven to have high success rates for male fertility:

A 2005 study conducted by Shanghai University in China found that of the men who participated, those who had acupuncture had an increased percentage of sperm in their semen and the sperm structure was healthier than their counterparts who did not receive acupuncture.

I found this on a website. This clinic is in my town.
It quotes that Acupuncture has also been proven to have high success rates for male fertility.

Hope this helps.

I went for my last cycle and plan on going again. I started it (along with Clomid) to improve my cycles and see if it will help fix my hormonal imbalance. I definitely O'ed a few days earlier. It was a little awkward at first, but it doesn't really hurt. I went once a week, but you can go every other. Good luck!

I have heard of a few people doing accupuncture and as a result their cycles become more irregular. Has anyone else heard this before?

Thanks

We were considering doing it for my husband and figured it was definitely worth a try. However, we were able to get ICSI so soon, we didn't have time and I didn't figure the money was worth it since we were doing IVF. There were plenty of sperm there for IVF just not natural conception.

However, I did decide to do it during my IVF cycle. I will never know if it helped but I do believe that it helped tremendously with side effects of meds. I also found it incredibly relaxing which while LTTTC can be a HUGE benefit. I did it weekly leading up to the IVF (starting about 6 weeks before transfer) and then did it the day of transfer and the day after transfer. I also continued to do it weekly for another 4 weeks after my :bfp:.
