Adding a Poll to existing thread

I have searched this forum in an effort to find an answer, but nothing seems to work for me. I have gone to the first post of the thread and clicked 'edit' and 'advanced' ; I have looked in thread tools, no options to add a Poll, any ideas anyone? It's annoying because I managed it a couple of years ago on another thread so Thank you
