How long after the baby tooth falls out does it roughly take for the adult tooth to grow through? Ds has lost 3 teeth, one almost a year ago and the adult tooth has not even started to come through. He should be due a check up soon so I'll ask dentist then but just wondered how long it had taken for your children?

Straight away for Thomas, might have been a day or two at the most. He's lost 4 teeth so far.

My daughters have always had the adult teeth poking through before the baby one has even fell out, just right behind them!

Although this doesn't seem to be the norm as other parents have commented on how quickly hers have came through compared to their children. Dentist should be able to tell you.

Usually its the adult tooth that pushes the baby tooth out, so the adult tooth would be sitting there ready to break through the gum or already a little through. I would get the dentist to have a look as a year is a very long time for the teeth not to be there.

My daughters 8, she lost her top 2 front teeth about 10 months ago and theyre just coming through now. She was a late teether (first tooth at 13 months) not sure if it has any correlation or not, i dont seem to remember my elder 2 taking do long to come through

My daughters had one missing for about a year, her new big teeth to the side of it pushed it out. There is still no signs of the big one of that tooth.

She's been waiting since march for her top 2 big teeth to come through and they just broke through the last couple weeks, but also pushed out the next tooth along so will be waiting a while for that one now.

She has a really small mouth and though her teeth are small too they're still a bit big for her mouth right now which i think is why they keep pushing out the next tooth along

Thanks everyone. My ds is only 5 and was only 4 when the first one fell out. I did wonder if that may be why they were taking a while to come though as he's quite young. My mum has told me she had to have an x-ray to check she had adult teeth as hers took so long to come through so maybe it runs in my family. W e are at the dentist in a month or so, so will check then.

My DD has lost 6 teeth, three of them still haven't come in. The bottom two teeth came back pretty quickly. But she lost the top four; one in April, one in May, one in June and one in July. Only the tooth lost in April has come down at all. She has only one tooth at the top of her mouth. lol

But her gums are swollen in a tooth shape above those three teeth. So obviously they are just taking their time to come back down. Is the area below those missing teeth slightly swollen in a tooth shape?
