Having just popped out for some formula and had to explain to the cashier when asked for my advantage card that you don't get points on formula, I was wondering what the deal is with this. Are they legally blocked from doing so? Does it count as promoting formula? I can sort of understand the not putting it on special offer thing so people know the cost of it but think not giving advantage points is mean. I mean has anyone really ever said to themselves I was going to BF but then I thought if I FF I could possibly save up enough advantage points to get a free tooth brush at the end of the year?!

Yup, you are right. Same reason hey wont do special offers on formula(stage 1 anyway). We must be punished for using formula, even though we're spending our cash in their store when BF'ers dont......:dohh:

its not the stores fault though, its the law x

'promotion or reward' (points) is the term they use - its just crap, no one in their right mind would make a decision to feed based on a few shop loyalty points - if you wanted to base the decision on finance you would go for the boobies everytime :dohh:

It's the same with tesco, they're not allowed to do it just in case people are tempted to FF just so they can get/use points. :dohh: There was a massive thread on this a while back if you search for it, it did get a bit nasty though if I recall.

I think hun if your on a low income healthy start give you vouchers that can buy, formula, cows milk, fruit and veg
xx

I mix feed and hate that people are so judgemental and that goes for people on here too it seems.. unfortunately.. whatever the personal situation everyone should make their own choices on what works for them.

I used to too for similar reasons hun - I've always said FF and BF both has their advantages.

Yerp Thats what I thought. I think you can buy forumla with it but don't take my word for it
xx

Hm, I still think it's a bit suspect. After all, advantage/reward points reward you for spending money in the store, not for what you buy so it doesn't really encourage you to buy any particular product. Anyways, have decided to buy my formula from Morrisons or Superdrug now as they don't do reward points so I don't have to feel bad about it and see huge crosses by any formula on the receipt just to stress you get no points on it, which seem to say to me 'bad formula, how dare you buy it!!!' Or maybe I'm just a little too sensitive :-)

Seemingly it's part of the government initiative to promote breastfeeding. I dont think there are many women would change there mind on FFing soley because they get no points in boots etc. :dohh: and the amount of women on here that have no option but to FF after trying hard to BF....it doesn't make a lot of sense but hey ho such is life lol x

yup but you get them from stage 3 and up (milk from 6 months)

i got a voucher from boots for £5 off baby stuff with a min spend and on the back its said excludes infant formula before 6 months.. i had some stage 3 milk in my shop to make up the min spend and she tried to embaress the hell out of me by loudly announcing tht i couldnt use it for formula - with a tone tht incinited she thought i was an idiot- so i very loudly and sarcastacly said back look FOLLOW ON not infant formula!!!

she still refused and had to get a manger who long and behold told her she was WRONG!!!

ive also had problems with using my boots points on formula (follow on) and had to get a manager!

the government are trying to cut down binge drinking but you can still collect points for alcohol!! how's that fair?

If you follow that logic, Tesco, Boots etc promote everything they sell - drugs, alcohol, fatty foods etc none of which are good for you on a long term basis and many of which the government has campaigns against. So that makes it even more unfair that they single out formula!

Anyone else notice that midwives use the term artificial on your notes if formula feeding? X

I hate that! If you look at your red book too every review etc it asks if the baby is being breastfed or date of last BF- I don't see why this is relevant if the review is not about feeding and there are no feeding problems? The whole thing just makes you feel bad and is so completely the wrong way to go about trying to make people BF. People need to want to do it not feel guilt tripped into it, that's the worst way to try to convince them to do it. It will just make people even more convinced that they don't want to just to spite them! The facts are out their for anyone who wants to know. Why can't we make our own decisions without needing to be guilt tripped like naughty children?! Sorry, rant over!
