Advice about anterior low lying placenta?!

By the looks of it nobody had a good 20wk scan experience today.
Sonographer couldnt get measurements & made me empty a bladder
that had nothing in it...then told me i had an anterior low lying placenta.
From what i've read it usually moves up...I've to go back at 34wks to check
this. All round i didnt really enjoy the scan, she kept hurting me
Then to top it off she couldnt confirm to me it was a boy

I now know why they can never find heartbeat with it being in the way...
i was told if the placenta is low i will feel less movement?
Thats been true so far!

Anybody got any experience with an anterior low lying placenta?!

Mine was anterior low lying. I've had heaps of movement so it probably depends on the baby (mine is a bit of a monster for moving), baby and placenta position (left or right feet up or down) and some other things.
Mine had moved (not sure how much, they didn't tell me and MW appointment not until Monday) by 32 weeks. I think an anterior is more likely to move than a posterior as the anterior side stretches more as the uterus grows.

When the placenta is in the front it can cushion you from kicks and prods etc, so you may feel less of that and like you say they will have more trouble finding the heartbeat. I have twins and both (I think, or at least one) has an anterior placenta but I don't think they're low lying. But I think it can move so I wouldn't worry. Sorry, not much help!

I spent 2 weeks in hospital, and every time the did a trace or doppler (several times a day!) I had to tell them baby is breech, placenta low anterior as otherwise they'd be ages looking for the heartbeat

Don't worry too much about it, chances are it will move up. Nothing to be done or decided about it until after your 34 week scan, if it's still low then they will monitor more closely, and if it's too low they may have to schedule a section.

Hey,
i had anterior low lying placenta with my last baby, and didnt feel baby move as much, and had the same probs with scans, even had 4d done, but couldnt see bubs face as placenta completely covering it! Always fine hearing heart beat on ctg and doppler tho which was reassuring! I had an extra scan at 36 weeks which told me my placenta had moved and was no longer obstructing the os. Most of these tricky little placentas move all by themselves hun, so try not to stress&the m/w will understand if you are concerned about movement and come out to you if nec.
