Advice about wriggling arms out of car seat

No sweetie we dont- the european legislation for car seats states that all car seats in the eu should be relesable by one red release button, so that they can be undone by one hand in the event of an accident. X

Why would someone need to release that quickly in an accident? We were in an accident with the kids....and we left them strapped in. The last thing we needed was them to be unlocked and hit by another car (it was a 5 car pile-up).

Thats just the legislation hun, i dont understand why myself- ive heard it suggested that its so emergency workers can get a child out quicker?- but surealy they'd just cut the straps? So i've no clue! Thats just the legislation in the eu x

It's in case you crash into a river and the car is filling with water or the car catches fire. You'd want to release them pretty quick then.

My friend is a fireman and it's actually very difficult to cut the a seatbelt!!

I don't understand how someones LO can get an arm out. The straps should be so tight and against LO's chest with no room for movement - most certainly not enough to slip a skinny arm out! You shouldn't be able to get LO's arms out even with the help of adults without undoing the clip xx

My LO started doing this recently too (Britax Prince) & it really scares me so im gonna look into those chest clips

having said that... I think its starting to sink in that she shouldnt do it coz the past twice we've been in the car she hasnt :) & i've really praised her so hopefully she might stop doing it xx

My LO does this too. Only when hes in a sulk and wants to get out of the car though! x

With ease if you're my son lol!

hun if you google, there's a small gap when the straps are adjusted correctly- just above where the buckle is and some childrem manage to get themselves out using this- must say i cant see how though lyssa has honestly never tried it! x

I have a hard time getting my toddler IN the car seat though. Does anyone's else's LO arch their back and fight it...it is SO hard to get her in there sometimes!

Me too. I will tighten them as tight as they will go. My LO will cry in pain at trying to get his arms out but keep doing it until he is free. And then he will have such a smirk of satisfaction.

If anyone has a real cure for this, someone let me know!

Not yet in his car seat, but he has just started this in his buggy. Im sure he will start it in the car seat very soon though. A couple of months ago, a girl in the car parked next to me had a huge struggle for well over 5 minutes, her little boy kicked, hit, arched, went completely stiff and straight, screamed and cried. It filled me with dread for whats possible to come! :haha:

This is supposed to be very good.

Just reading this (https://5pointplus.com/no-wonder-chest-clips-on-car-seats-are-illegal/) I can see why the chest clip is illegal here..... Maybe our seats are totally different though?

Interesting article...but as a mother of three..I have never had ONE of those issues listed, nor have I ever heard of a mother with any of those issues. But, it is interesting because I have always wondered why the difference in car seats...

I definatly have the straps tigh enough as tight as i can pull them and she still does it, she will cry and grunt in a struggles as shes doing it but keeps going until its out! the once one arm is out the other is fairly easy. I even took my seat back to the shop and got them to test it and put her in to see if i had them right. I did, and she can mannage. Its certainly not user error, but a design fault i guess, its definatly NOT impossible!

Matilda gets out as well.
I didn't realise at first and when we noticed and tightened up her straps the little monkey kept saying 'I'm stuck, I'm stuck'.
One time she did it and opened the car door while we were driving along. Needless to say the kiddi locks went on pretty sharp.
